Prep roundup: McGrath leads SVCA baseball to victory

STEPHENS CITY — Patrick McGrath had a big day at the plate and on the mound to lead Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy past Paw Paw (W.Va.), 10-0, in non-conference baseball action Thursday. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

McGrath had nine strikeouts and threw a two-hitter for the Patriots (5-4). He also went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Matt Rogers went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases for SVCA.

WOODSTOCK — The Dragons broke open a close game with a combined eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 14-4 win over Central in Bull Run District action Thursday.

Cody Sager led the Falcons (5-4, 3-3 Bull Run) with a triple and a double. Central had only six hits in the contest.

Strasburg 3, Manassas Park 2

MANASSAS PARK — Mark Smoot’s sacrifice bunt scored two runs to give the Rams a Bull Run District baseball victory over the Cougars on Thursday.

Strasburg (9-1, 6-1 Bull Run) had only two hits in the win. The Rams trailed 2-0 after the first inning, but cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth on an RBI double by Noah St. Clair. In the top of the sixth, Ryan Smoot led off with a walk, and Tyler Doman doubled. That set-up Mark’s Smoot’s game-winning sac bunt.
