Prep roundup: Potts scores five times as Wildcats beat Mountaineers

FRONT ROYAL -- Warren County senior Kelsea Potts tallied five goals on Tuesday as the Wildcats beat Bull Run District foe Madison County, 6-3, in girls soccer action.

Potts struck quickly for the Wildcats, as she scored goals in the first and ninth minute of the match before tallying three more goals in the second half. Junior Alex Dawson scored her first varsity goal in the final minutes of the first half.

Sophomore Courtney L'Amoreaux had three assists for Warren County (3-1, 3-1 Bull Run), and Nina Richards and Nina Petitt had one assist each for the Wildcats.

Warren County held an 18-9 shot advantage in the win. The Wildcats return to action on Wednesday in a road contest at Strasburg in a game that has been moved up from Thursday evening.

Baseball

Central 10, Rappahannock County 0
WOODSTOCK -- Central's baseball team picked up its second win of the season on Tuesday against visiting Rappahannock County, as the Falcons cruised to a 10-0 Bull Run District victory that ended in five innings due to the mercy rule.

The Falcons (2-1, 1-1 Bull Run District) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and one run in the second before closing out the win with five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Senior Matt Marston pitched all five innings for the Falcons and earned his first win of the season. Marston allowed just one hit and struck out four in the shutout.

"He did a good job on the mound," Falcons coach Donn Foltz said. "He pitched well for his first start of the season."

At the plate, senior Zach Herbaugh led the way for Central, as he went 2-for-3 with a single, double and two runs scored.

Boys soccer

Central 4, Rappahannock County 0
WASHINGTON, Va. -- Taishi Ukai had a hat trick to lead Central to a 4-0 boys soccer victory over Rappahannock County on Tuesday night.

Ukai scored all three goals in the second half. Austin Fadely had the Falcons only goal of the first half. Tyler Bosserman had two assists, and Franklin Hernandez and Ben Truban each had an assist for the Falcons (3-0).

Central outshot Rappahannock County, 24-9.

"It was a good win," Central coach Ted Poor said. "They have an excellent goalie. I think he deserves a lot of credit. He made some great saves."

Softball

Madison County 3, Warren County 0
FRONT ROYAL -- Lauren Seale threw a two-hitter for the Mountaineers as they spoiled the Wildcats' season opener.

Seale struck out 11 in picking up the win in the circle. Emma Wright and Brittany Williamson had the hits for the Wildcats (0-1, 0-1 Bull Run).

"They were the state runner-up last year. They have a very strong team," Warren County coach Justin Stock said. "It was a tough game to start out with."
