Prep roundup: Strasburg's Emswiler throws no-hitter against Panthers

STRASBURG -- Megan Emswiler threw a no-hitter as Strasburg defeated Rappahannock County, 14-0, in Bull Run District softball action. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.

Emswiler struck out six and had no walks for the Rams (6-5). She also went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Cortney McDonald went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Mikala Alsberry went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Central 4, Warren County 1
FRONT ROYAL -- Bekah Ansbro threw a complete-game two-hitter to lead Central past Warren County in Bull Run District softball action.

Freshman Shennan Waldron went 3-for-3 with three doubles for the Falcons (8-2, 6-2 Bull Run).

Baseball

Sherando 11, James Wood 0 (5 innings)
WINCHESTER -- Visiting Sherando took advantage of some sloppy James Wood defense to pick up an 11-0 Northwestern District baseball win on Tuesday night. The game was called in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.

The Warriors tallied nine hits in the win but received plenty of help from the Colonels' defense.

"We hit the ball well, but they had three costly errors that led to nine unearned runs altogether," Warriors coach Pepper Martin said.

Adam Whitacre led the way for Sherando, as he went 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three stolen bases. Zach Henke was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Hayden Fox was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and Reid Entsminger was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Tyler Michaud pitched all five innings for Sherando (4-3, 3-2 Northwestern) and allowed three hits and two walks and struck out three.

Strasburg 12, Rappahannock County 1 (5 innings)
STRASBURG -- Strasburg's offense backed a solid starting pitching effort from Garrett Richards in a 12-1 Bull Run District win over visiting Rappahannock County.

The Rams (10-1) tallied 14 hits in the win, while Richards pitched four shutout innings in which he allowed three hits and struck out four. Richards also picked off all three baserunners he allowed.

Ryan Murphy led the Rams' attack, as he went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Ryan Smoot was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, Tyler Doman was 2-for-2 with an RBI, Noah St. Clair was 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs, and Mark Smoot was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

R-MA 10, SVCA 9
FRONT ROYAL -- Jeremiah Hixson delivered a walk-off sacrifice fly as Randolph-Macon Academy beat visiting Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy, 10-9, on Tuesday evening.

Spencer Petty-Kane was 2-for-3 with three runs scored for R-MA, while Hixson was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Travis Pullen was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets.

Taylor Jones was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for SVCA, while Patrick McGrath and Matt Rogers each went 1-for-2. McGrath also scored three runs.
