SU roundup: Hornets third heading into final day of ODAC golf tourney

CONOVER, N.C. – The Shenandoah University men’s golf team has solidified its hold on the third place position following the completion of play Monday at the 2014 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships.

Shenandoah, which found itself in third after shooting a 325 in Sunday’s first round, carded a collective 318 Monday over the par-72, 6,944-yard Rock Barn Golf & Spa course.

Guilford and Washington and Lee remained tied for the lead after posting identical 303 scores Monday.

The Quakers and Generals both shot 312 Sunday.

Guilford is rated seventh and W&L 38th in the GolfStat rankings.

Hampden-Sydney, the 20th rated team in Division III according to GolfStat, posted a 321 Monday to fall eight shots back of SU.

The Tigers were five shots back of Shenandoah coming into Monday’s second round.

Bridgewater improved by 17 strokes Monday to find itself just four back of Hampden-Sydney.

Roanoke, Virginia Wesleyan, Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon and Eastern Mennonite round out the field.

Individually, freshman Brennan Lloyd and sophomore Doc Schulte are tied for eighth after shooting 76 and 78, respectively, Monday.

Evan Cocke and Seth Crean rounded out the Hornets’ qualifying scores with a 78 and an 86.

Adam Flees had a 94 that did not count toward the team total.

The tournament concludes Tuesday.
