WASHINGTON, Va. -- Bekah Ansbro threw a no-hitter as Central crushed Rappahannock County, 19-1, in Bull Run District softball action on Monday. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Ansbro is now 12-1 on the season. Central had nine hits in the victory. The Falcons are now 15-4, and have won 14 of their last 17 games.
Strasburg 4-4, George Mason 2-2
STRASBURG -- The Rams swept a pair of Bull Run District softball games from George Mason with identical 4-2 scores. Both games were five-inning contests.
In the first game, the Rams took a 2-1 lead in the third inning and held on for the win. Emily Alexander went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Lexi Schlag had a triple and a stolen base for the Rams. Megan Emswiler picked up the win in the circle and struck out four, allowing just three hits.
In the second game, Strasburg scored two runs in the bottom of the third to break a 1-1 tie and pull away. Schlag went 2-for-2 with a double, and Marissa Doman was 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Rams (9-9-1). Carey Scott picked up the win, allowing just three hits and striking out five.
Central 14, Rappahannock County 1
WASHINGTON, Va. -- Matt Marston and Corey Sibert combined on a two-hitter as the Falcons topped the Panthers in Bull Run District action. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Marston had a no-hitter heading into the fourth inning before allowing a hit and giving way to Sibert. The Falcons had 11 hits in the win. Zach Herbaugh had two doubles, and Sam Cornman went 2-for-3 for the Falcons (9-8).
Sherando 14, Skyline 0
FRONT ROYAL -- Adam Whitacre and Jordan Clark combined for a one-hitter as the Warriors cruised past the Hawks in Northwestern District action. The game was called after five innings due to the mercy rule.
Whitacre pitched the first three innings, and Clark pitched the last two for the Warriors. Reid Entsminger led the Warriors at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Chase Smallwood went 1-for-1 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored, and Connor Stevenson was 1-for-1 with a single, two RBIs and two runs scored for Sherando (10-5).
Sherando 8, Skyline 3
STEPHENS CITY -- The Warriors overcame a feisty Skyline squad on their way to a Northwestern District win.
The Hawks took a 2-0 lead, before the Warriors answered with four goals to take a 4-2 halftime lead. Erin Magalis had four goals and one assist, and Tori Dean had two goals and three assists for the Warriors (6-3-3). Kelsey Singhas and Annabelle Racey had a goal each for the Warriors. Brianna Rossi, Taylor Fogarty, Katelyn Tuck and Olivia Elliott each had one assist for Sherando. The Warriors outshot the Hawks, 21-7.
Quinn Breeden had two goals, and Gabi Huebner had a goal for the Hawks (2-13-1).
Warren County 2, Rappahannock County 0
WASHINGTON, Va. -- Warren County's Kelsea Potts scored a pair of first-half goals as the visiting Wildcats downed Bull Run District rival Rappahannock County in girls soccer action Monday.
Courtney L'Amoreaux and Hannah Christman tallied assists for Warren County (10-4-1).
The Wildcats and Panthers finished even on shots at eight each. Warren County goalkeepers Abbey O'Mara and Rachel Liebl combined for eight saves.
