FRONT ROYAL -- Strasburg got the win it's been looking for all season.
The Rams knocked off Warren County, 5-4, in Bull Run District girls soccer action on Tuesday night.
Freshman Amelia Guthrie had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Rams (2-10). The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the first half, but the Wildcats rallied to tie the game at the half. Strasburg built the lead back to two goals before the Wildcats trimmed the lead to 4-3 with eight minutes left in the game. Guthrie scored the last of her goals with six minutes left to out the game out of reach.
"I feel that the girls played with confidence, and you could see it in the way they played from the very start of the game," Strasburg coach Katherine Klus said. "Toward the end both teams were fighting hard for the win. When Warren County came back and scored, the girls would relax, and played with confidence and intensity at the same time."
Aubrie Richardson and Kennedy Smalls each had a goal and an assist for the Rams. Brooke Calloway and Kristen Dolly each had an assist for the Rams. Warren County outshot Strasburg 27-9. Strasburg keeper Haley Bischoff had 22 saves.
Kelsea Potts had all four goals for the Wildcats.
Stonewall Jackson 3, East Rockingham 1
ELKTON -- Ali Singleton had two goals to lead the Generals past the Eagles in Shenandoah District action Tuesday.
Emily Jordan had a goal and an assist, and Ally Hepner and Kelsey Kokkonen each had an assist for the Generals (4-8). Jessica Pechie had 12 saves for Stonewall Jackson.
Foxcroft School 2, R-MA 1, PKs
FRONT ROYAL -- Host Randolph-Macon Academy's girls soccer team saw its season end in a penalty kick shootout on Tuesday.
Tied with Foxcroft School at 1-1 after regulation and overtime play, the Yellow Jackets connected on just one of five penalty kicks while Foxcroft tallied two to win the Delaney Athletic Conference tournament first-round game.
Central 6, George Mason 1
WOODSTOCK -- Central scored a combined six runs fourth and fifth innings to pull out a Bull Run District win over the Mustangs.
Central took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Mustangs rallied to tie it at 1-1 in the top of the fifth. The Falcons responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.
Sydney Plum led the Falcons with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Shennan Waldron went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Falcons (11-2, 7-2 Bull Run). Bekah Ansbro tossed a 3-hitter for Central.
East Rockingham 17, Stonewall Jackson 0
QUICKSBURG -- The Generals started off slow and couldn't recover in a Shenandoah District loss.
The Eagles scored 10 runs in the first inning. The Generals committed eight errors. Madison Long had a double, for the Generals' lone hit of the game.
Central 6, George Mason 5
WOODSTOCK -- Central sophomore Cody Polk delivered a walkoff two-run single as the Falcons beat George Mason, 6-5, in Bull Run District action on Tuesday evening.
Cody Sager and Hayden Bauserman reached on a hit and a walk, respectively, to start the rally, and a walk by Sam Cornman loaded the bases for Central. Polk then hit a dribbler out in front of home plate that resulted in the tying and winning runs both coming in to score.
Polk was 2-for-4 in the game, while Cornman was 2-for-3 with a double. Bauserman had a big day for the Falcons (7-7, 5-5 Bull Run), as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Bauserman also pitched a complete game, as he struck out eight while allowing 10 hits and two walks.
SVCA 14, Ridgeview Christian 8
STUARTS DRAFT -- Patrick McGrath had a big day at the plate and on the mound to lead the Patriots past the Crusaders in conference action.
McGrath went 4-for-5 at the plate, with five RBIs, three doubles and two runs scored. McGrath also picked up the win on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings in relief. Cody Robertson went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Jacob Heflin went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Patriots (7-7).
SVCA trailed 8-7 entering the top of the sixth, but scored five runs to take control of the game.
Trinity Fairfax 12, R-MA 5
FAIRFAX -- The Yellow Jackets saw their season come to an end with a first-round loss in the Delaney Athletic Conference tournament.
The Yellow Jackets committed eight errors in the loss, and gave up six runs with two outs in the second inning. Spencer Petty-Kane led the Yellow Jackets (5-5) with three hits and scored two runs. John Camarella went 2-for-4 with a double, and Edwin Guyette went 1-for-3 with a two-run double for the Yellow Jackets.
