WINCHESTER — Sherando baseball coach Pepper Martin reached a milestone on Wednesday as he picked up his 300th career victory in a 7-3 Warriors’ win over Handley in Northwestern District baseball action.
“The 300 win mark in baseball is pretty special to me,” Martin said. “It shows Ive been around a long time. It’s also a testament to the excellent coaches I’ve had work with me. They’re all a part of it. We’ve had talented players come through here over the years that bought into our coaching philosophy, what we try to do on and off the field.
“I’ve been blessed to have wonderful kids come through the school, and to have the opportunity to be parts of their lives is probably the most rewarding aspect of it.”
The Warriors scored two run in the first and two more in the second for a 4-1 lead. Adam Whitacre went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, and Zach Henke went 2-for-2 for the Warriors (12-5). Rennie Marchi was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Reid Entsminger was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Sherando. Andrew Loudan went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Warriors.
