SU roundup: Mohlmann sets new school mark in heptathlon

DELAWARE, Ohio — Shenandoah University junior Jaclyn Mohlmann put herself in position Tuesday to qualify for the 2014 NCAA National Championships after posting a school record score in the heptathlon at the Ron Althoff Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
Mohlmann, after putting up 2,638 points in Monday’s four events, added another 1,880 points on Tuesday in the long jump, javelin and 800 meters to post a 4,518 total.
The 510 points scored in the javelin was a personal record.
This mark, which breaks the record of 4,403 set last season at the same meet, vaults Mohlmann to No. 14 in the nation.
The top 22 scores nationally will qualify for the national championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan from May 22-24.
Mohlmann won the eight-woman competition Tuesday by 27 points.
The Shenandoah baseball team heads into the 2014 NCAA Tournament up a total of three positions in a pair of ranking polls released Tuesday.
The Hornets, 31-9 and the top seed at the Demorest (Ga.) Regional, improve by two spots to the No. 13 position in the week 11 poll conducted by NCBWA and D3baseball.com.
In the ABCA poll, coach Kevin Anderson’s club is up one spot to No. 16.
SU has 314 points in the D3baseball.com poll to come in comfortably ahead of No. 14 Birmingham Southern.
The Panthers, who are ranked 12th in the ABCA poll, are the No. 3 seed at the Demorest Regional.
Emory (Ga.), the No. 2 seed, checks in at No. 22 and No. 30 in the two polls.
Webster (Mo.) remains as the top team in the nation according to D3baseball.com while Linfield (Ore.) heads up the ABCA poll.
Shenandoah opens regional play on Wednesday at noon against sixth-seeded Covenant (Ga.).
