SU roundup: Two athletes named All-District

DELAWARE, Ohio – Shenandoah University had two baseball players earn Capital One Academic All-District honors in selections announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Sophomore Billy Arens and junior Michael Paul have both been named first team All-District and are now candidates for Academic All-America.
Paul, the 2014 ODAC Player of the Year, is a 3.86 student as a Mathematics major.
Arens, who like Paul was named first team All-ODAC, has a 3.72 GPA as a Criminal Justice major.
The two have both earned Dean’s List honors in each of the last three semesters and were Academic All-ODAC honorees in 2012-13.
Paul currently leads the nation in RBIs while Arens is hitting .418 to Paul’s .444.
Arens is the team’s starting shortstop and Paul the starting third baseman. Both men were selected to the All-District team as infielders.
The two would be the fourth and fifth Academic All-Americans from the baseball program in the past seven years.
Daniel Ziccardy ’07 was named in 2007, Greg Van Sickler ’11 earned it in 2010 and teammate Kevin Brashears ’11 in 2011.
Arens and Paul are two of five members of the District V team from the ODAC.
The Academic All-America team will be selected later this month.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Shenandoah University baseball team remains as the No. 1 team in the South Region in ranking results announced Thursday afternoon by the NCAA.
The Hornets, who have completed regular season play with a 31-9 record, await the May 12 announcement of the NCAA Tournament field on a possible Pool C berth.
Shenandoah is seeking one of 14 Pool C slots into the 56-team tournament field after falling in the ODAC Championship to Bridgewater on Sunday.
BC, on the strength of two wins over SU Sunday, is the No. 4 team in the South.
These rankings are determined by the South Region Ranking Committee and are used by the national committee to assist in the makeup of the national tournament field.
The tournament field will be revealed May 12.
