SU roundup: Hornets garner record for academic honors

WINCHESTER — Shenandoah University had a program record 232 student-athletes earn academic accolades in lists released Wednesday by the department.
Led by a best-ever 18 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 GPAs, the department had 177 of its student-athletes named to the Dean’s List and an additional 55 named to the Athletic Director’s List for the spring 2014 semester.
Softball and women’s lacrosse shared top honors with three student-athletes each posting perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Six student-athletes: Michael Paul, Kelani Bailey, Liz Bereit, Samantha Sisson, Danielle Burris and Brittany Guepe earned All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference accolades with Paul leading this group by capturing Player of the Year honors for baseball.
Sophomore Molly Barb rounds out this group after earning ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors for women’s tennis.
Dean’s List honors are earned with a minimum 3.25 GPA while all student-athletes at 3.0 or better are named to the Athletic Director’s List.
All 20 teams had at least one student-athlete named to the Dean’s List.
The field hockey team, with its department-best 3.38 GPA, saw 13 of its 16 members named Dean’s List.
The baseball team had a department-high 29 players earn Dean’s List honors.
