WINCHESTER — Shenandoah University had six student-athletes named Academic All-State in selections announced Thursday by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors.

Rising seniors Liz Bereit, Holly Chittenden and Michael Paul join rising juniors Molly Barb, Gerard Talbot-Paul and Cameron Wiseman in being recognized for their academic and athletic achievement.

The six have an average GPA of 3.82, with Barb and her perfect 4.0 as a Kinesiology major leading the group. They are among a group of 226 student-athletes from 38 institutions across the commonwealth that are being honored.

Barb, the Hornets’ No. 1 women’s tennis player, was named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s tennis in May.

Paul, who was named Player of the Year in baseball by the ODAC, the ABCA and D3baseball.com, became the fourth baseball player in school history to be named Academic All-America with his first-team accolade.

Bereit, a women’s lacrosse co-captain, rounds out the group earning All-ODAC honors with her second team selection.

Chittenden, a co-captain of the women’s basketball team, earned All-ODAC accolades in 2012-13 and led the 2013-14 team in rebounding after finishing third in scoring.

Talbot-Paul is a third co-captain in the group of six, leading the men’s soccer team, and anchored the squad’s midfield this past fall.

Wiseman had an 82 this past fall to finish in a tie for 44th place at the Virginia State Division III Championships.
