RICHMOND — James Madison University sophomore forward Ashley Herndon and senior defender Shannon Rano were voted to the 2014 Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association women’s soccer team, the league announced Wednesday.

Sophomore midfielder Allie Bunner also received honorable mention on the preseason ballot.

Herndon earned the conference’s Rookie of the Year honor in 2013 after tallying six goals and seven assists in her first year with the Dukes. She also scored four game-winning goals and helped JMU to a 15-5-1 record last season. Her 19 points on the year were good for second on the team behind Katie Hyland, who finished the season with 21 points.

Rano, an All-CAA Second-Team selection as a junior, was one of five senior defenders voted to the team. Rano played every minute of every game in 2013 before missing the postseason due to injury.

Bunner scored twice and tallied four assists in 2013. She scored one of three goals JMU netted against Hofstra in the CAA Tournament semifinals, a 3-1 victory for the Dukes on November 8.

Hofstra’s Leah Galton was selected as the preseason Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

James Madison faces Bucknell on Saturday in its first exhibition match of the fall. First kick at University Park is set for 7 p.m. The 25th anniversary season gets underway on Aug. 22 with a 7 p.m. match against Xavier in the Fairfield Inn by Marriott JMU Invitational.
