WINCHESTER — Sherando High School’s golf team couldn’t quite match its opening-day performance in the Bryan Gunter Invitational on Friday at Winchester Country Club.

The Warriors entered play with a one-stroke lead in the 12-team tournament, but dropped to third by the end of the afternoon with a combined 649. Loudoun Valley won the team championship with a 639 total, followed by Dominion with 645.

“They were in it for a while,” Sherando coach Rob Wright said of his squad. “Then it just seemed like each one of them had just one or two bad holes that did them in.”

Loudoun Valley’s Brandon Weaver matched his first-day 70 with another on Friday to win medalist honors with a 4-under-par 140. Sherando’s Brett Loy, who had a 73 on Thursday at Rock Harbor Golf Course, fired a 75 on Friday to finish tied for second at 148.

Also scoring for the Warriors on Friday were Jonah Pearson (82), Mason Scott (82) and Collin Ordonez (87).

Skyline moved up a spot to finish 11th with 799.

Hannah Henry fired a career-best round of 93 to match Brandon Griffith’s 93 for the team lead. Anthony Crescienzi added a 94 and Vinni Cassiano carded a 109 for the Hawks.
