MANASSAS — Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy’s Kenton Guyer scored a goal on a break-away in the 74th minute to lead the Patriots to a 5-4 boys soccer victory over Seton School on Friday.
Guyer, starting from midfield, beat three Seton defenders on his way to the goal to boost SVCA (2-0-1) to the win in a back-and-forth contest. The Patriots trailed 2-0 just nine minutes into the game, but battled back to tie it by halftime.
The Patriots’ Chris Mason got the scoring started with a goal off a header in the 21st minute. William Steele had the assist. Then in the 25th minute, Peter Harrison drew a foul to earn a free kick that he converted into an unassisted goal.
Seton dashed back ahead with two more goals in the first 12 minutes of the second half, but the Patriots again rallied back. Josh Smallwood collected an assist from Harrison for a goal in the 59th minute. Nine minutes later, Smallwood again tallied a goal when he followed Steele’s initial shot for a second-chance score.
That set up Guyer’s heroics in the 74th minute.
SVCA goalkeeper Madison Brewer finished with eight saves.
