WINCHESTER — Visiting Goucher College used a pair of goals in a 69-second span to key a 3-1 non-league men’s soccer victory over Shenandoah on Tuesday.
Kevin Tonkovich scored at 29:25 and 30:34 to give the Gophers (4-3) a lead they would not relinquish over Shenandoah (3-6).
Sophomore Loudoun Phillips cut the deficit in half for the Hornets with his header goal of an Eduardo Santiago cross, but SU could get no closer.
Goucher effectively sealed the victory with a goal in the 72nd minute.
The Gophers outshot Shenandoah 12-8 and took eight of the game’s 14 corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Matthew Poell had five saves in the losing effort.
SU returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. contest at Randolph College.
