Gladiators crush Generals

QUICKSBURG — Riverheads kept right on rolling Friday night as the Gladiators scored a lopsided 56-22 win over winless Stonewall Jackson in Shenandoah District football action.

The Gladiators, fresh off an emotional 16-14 victory over Wilson Memorial in their last outing, amassed 446 yards rushing en route to keeping their undefeated record intact.

Riverheads, the No. 1 seed in Group 2A East coming into the game, went to work fast, scoring four times in the opening quarter. The touchdowns came on a 13-yard run by Ben Agnor, a pair of runs by Landon Diehl of 68 and 39 yards, and a Kendall Casto to Tripp Agnor 26-yard pass.

Stonewall Jackson (0-8, 0-4 Shenandoah), trailing 21-0, scored on a 76-yard run by Derrick Smith and a two-point conversion run as the first quarter ended with the Gladiators in command at 28-8.

The second quarter saw Riverheads pick up three more touchdowns. Diehl ripped off on a 47-yard run, Cole Smiley raced 39 yards for a score and Garrett Campbell scored on a 3-yard run.

A nifty 20-yard pass from Nathan Miller to Michael Knauff went for a Generals’ score, which left Riverheads ahead 49-14 at the half.

Both teams had just one score in the second half as the Gladiators went deep into their reserves.

Sophomore Harrison Schaefer accounted for the Riverheads tally when he bolted 46 yards to the house in the fourth quarter.

Riverheads (8-0) travels to Stuarts Draft next Friday. Stonewall Jackson will play at Luray on Friday at 7 p.m.
