MVCA’s boys cross country wins state title

Daily Staff Report –

Mountain View Christian Academy won the Virginia Association of Christian Athletes state boys cross country title on Saturday at Faith Christian Academy in Roanoke.

The boys won the meet by a point. The Conquerors were led by Josh Medina (fifth), David Snyder (sixth), Matt Coughlin (seventh), Michael Dhom (eighth), Julian Tahov (11th) and Kallin Presley (15th).

The girls team placed second in the meet, and were led by Savanna Daniels (fifth), Leoni Titscher (eighth), Danielle Newlin (10th), Svenja Neunast (11th) and Yejin (Julia) An (12th).

Last year the Conquerors had only two runners, not enough to field the team, but had a lot more students go out for the team this season. Approximately 19 percent of the students enrolled at MVCA that were eligible to run in the state meet ran in the meet, according to a news release. MVCA also placed third in the middle school girls state meet, and second in the middle school boys. The program also had four foreign exchange students.

“I couldn’t have been prouder of all four teams,” MVCA head coach Gary Bordelon stated in a news release. “All 23 students ran the best race of the entire year and they gave 100 percent through the whole race. This year these runners not only learned about starting and finishing a race, but they also learned about starting and finishing commitments in their lives. For most of them, it was their first year running.

“It is exciting to see the program go from a few kids to four full successful teams. We only have one graduating senior, which means our program has a good building base for future years.”
