MADISON — Strasburg High school quarterback Mark Smoot connected with his brother, Ryan, on an 8-yard touchdown strike with just under three minutes to play to boost the Rams to a 36-30 victory over host Madison County in Bull Run District football action on Friday night.
Strasburg got two first-half touchdowns from Colton Funk (17 rushes for 99 yards) to grab the lead at 14-8. Funk scored on a 10-yard run, then hauled in a 24-yard touchdown strike from Mark Smoot in the second quarter.
After the Mountaineers tied it in the second quarter, the Smoot-to-Smoot connection netted a 7-yard touchdown pass play to give the Rams the halftime lead.
Cody Darr’s 1-yard touchdown run increased that advantage, but the Mountaineers scored the next two touchdowns to tie the game once more before Ryan Smoot hauled in the game-winner from Mark Smoot (17-for-28 passing for 275 yards, 3 TDs).
Noah St. Clair finished with five catches for 71 yards, and Trevin Howard added four catchs for 89 yards. Funk also chipped in with three receptions for 57 yards and the touchdown.
