SU roundup: Hornets men’s hoops picked to finish 11th

SALEM — The Shenandoah University men’s basketball team is the pre-season No. 11 selection of the ODAC coaches in pre-season poll results released Thursday morning as part of the league’s annual media day.

The Hornets, coming off of a 12-14 season that saw the squad win four ODAC contests, have 22 points in the poll to come in between No. 10 Bridgewater and No. 12 Emory and Henry.

Randolph-Macon, which captured the top seed to the 2014 ODAC Tournament after winning 14 of 16 league contests, is picked to win the 2015 title.

The Yellow Jackets have 120 points and 10 of a possible 11 first place votes in the poll.

Voting is done on a 1-11 basis and coaches cannot vote for their own teams in the poll.

Virginia Wesleyan, a 2014 tournament finalist, is the pre-season No. 2 pick with 111 points and the remaining two first place votes.

Eastern Mennonite and Guilford tie for third with 91 points while Hampden-Sydney rounds out the top five with 87 points.

SU, under the direction of fourth year head coach Rob Pryor, is 13 points behind BC for 10th and eight points clear of No. 12 E&H.

Shenandoah opens its season next Saturday with a 4 p.m. exhibition at DI George Mason.
