SU roundup: Hornets tied for seventh in golf tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Shenandoah University men’s golf team opened up its final tournament of the fall season by shooting a collective 323 Monday afternoon at the O’Briant/Jensen Memorial Tournament hosted by Guilford College.

Playing at the par-70, 7,002-yard Pete Dye Course at Sedgefield C.C., the Hornets are currently tied for seventh with Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Bridgewater after day one of the two-day, 36-hole event.

Junior Doc Schulte paced SU with a five-over-par 75 while Evan Cocke had an 81 and both Brett Dubin and Brennan Lloyd carded 84.

Seth Crean had an 89 that did not count toward the team total.

Schulte is tied for fifth in the 95-man event.

Longtime DIII powers Methodist and Guilford are tied for the lead after each shooting 28-over-par 308.

Shenandoah and Bridgewater are five shots back of sixth place Greensboro and two shots clear of Averett.

The tournament concludes Tuesday.
