LYNCHBURG – The Shenandoah University field hockey team fell just short in its quest to unseat perennial ODAC champion Lynchburg in a 1-0 ODAC loss Friday evening.

SU was seeking its first-ever victory over the defending champion LC Hornets.
The two teams played a scoreless opening stanza with LC outshooting Shenandoah just 9-7.
Just more than 10 minutes into the second half, Lacey Elliott crossed in front to Grace Ann Edgerton, who was able to beat SU goalkeeper Jenna Rampale for the only goal of the contest.
Shenandoah had five shots and three penalty corners in the second half, but could not earn the equalizing goal.
Rampale ended up with eight saves on the night.
SU is now off for the next week and returns to action on Saturday, October 25 for a Homecoming contest against Roanoke. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Shenandoah continues ODAC play with a noon match at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
