SU roundup: Delaney lands national honor

MINNEAPOLIS — Shenandoah University sophomore Cedrick Delaney has been named to the Team of the Week for week 10 in selections announced early Tuesday morning by the website.

Delaney, who was named as the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Sunday, earns his first-ever honor after setting a new program and ODAC record with 321 yards rushing on 41 carries Saturday afternoon at Emory and Henry.

Delaney scored four touchdowns in the game, including three on the ground, and his 332 all-purpose yards is the ninth-best total all-time in the ODAC.

In addition to his single game rushing record, Delaney is also the new season rushing record holder at SU thanks to his 1,174 yard total heading into the season finale Saturday at Washington and Lee.

Finally, his third-quarter touchdown Saturday afternoon is an ODAC Play of the Week nominee.

WINCHESTER — The Shenandoah University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee announced its annual canned food drive initiative Tuesday morning.

The annual competition runs now through Nov. 21.

Individuals wishing to donate can drop off their non-perishable food items into collection boxes that are placed around campus, including outside the offices of each of the university’s head coaches as well as the Shingleton Gymnasium lobby.

Following collection, all food items will be donated C-CAP through the “Camping for Hunger” food drive initiative conducted by The River 95.3 FM.

This is the sixth straight year that SAAC has partnered with The River 95.3 to collect non-perishable food items for distribution in the northern Shenandoah Valley.

SAAC President Liz Bereit also announced that the SAAC will hold a friendly, gender-based competition as part of the initiative.
