Charles Town approved for 2015 racing dates

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has announced its live racing schedule for 2015 following approval from the West Virginia Racing Commission.

The currently approved schedule includes 220 live racing dates beginning with Charles Town’s Jan. 2 card, with four live days per week from January through July 18 and five live days the remainder of the year.

Post time for the first race at Charles Town will remain 7 p.m., with the two exceptions being the 13-race Charles Town Classic card on April 18, which will get underway at its special 12:45 p.m. start time, and the track’s 12-race Race for the Ribbon program on Sept. 19 that commences at 5 p.m. 2015 represents the first year the $1.5 million Charles Town Classic (G2) will be run during the day.

While the 220-day calendar is what has been approved by the West Virginia Racing Commission, Charles Town has formally requested amending it to a 193-day schedule. Procedurally, Charles Town had to apply for 220 days based on current state law, but can subsequently request the Commission to permit a reduced schedule. The request was made following the track’s receipt of a letter from the Charles Town HBPA indicating the organization’s agreement with the amended 193-day schedule. The requested, amended calendar for 2015 is still subject to approval by the West Virginia Racing Commission and would not impact any of the currently scheduled days in the first six months of the new year.
