SU roundup: Hornets sixth in women’s track meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Shenandoah University women’s indoor track & field team had an outstanding day Thursday at the Sweetheart Multi-Mix Madness hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy by posting a sixth-place finish.

Shenandoah, with 14 points, bested DI Towson in the eight-team meet as well as ODAC rival Bridgewater.

SU was second among DIII schools, coming up one point short of McDaniel.

Every Hornet competitor set a new personal record in her event Thursday with senior Jaclyn Mohlmann breaking school records in the high jump, long jump and indoor pentathlon.

Mohlmann opened her pentathlon with a 9.41 seconds in the 60 meter high hurdles before high jumping 1.84 meters and throwing the shot put 9.69 meters.

A 5.18 meter long jump followed and then she completed her day by coasting home with a 2:26.52 in the 800 meters for a total of 3464 points.

The total breaks her previous school mark of 3338 set last season at the North Central (Ill.) Final Qualifier.

She was third in the 60 meter hurdles, high jump and 800 meters, fourth in the long jump and 10th in the shot.

Mohlmann finished third overall in the 15-woman competition and was first among DIII competitors.

Sophomore Danyelle McGrady was fourth in the shot put and sixth in the weight throw. She had tosses of 10.51 and 13.13 meters, respectively.

The 1600-meter relay team of Sarah Mann, Mary Claire Miller, Shelby Shrader and Emily Cobb finished third among DIII competitors with a school record 4:49.75. Mann and Miller ran 200-meter legs, Shrader the 400-meter leg and Cobb the 800.
