SU roundup: Hornets’ women’s tennis picked seventh in ODAC

FOREST — The Shenandoah University women’s tennis team is the pre-season No. 7 pick of the league’s coaches in ODAC pre-season poll results released Thursday by the league office.

The Hornets, who won a program record 11 matches last season on their way to a first-ever appearance in the ODAC tournament, have 62 points in the poll to come in nine points behind No. 6 Randolph and 10 clear of No. 8 Guilford.

Perennial champion Washington and Lee tops the poll with a perfect 121 points on 11 first-place votes.

Voting was done on an 11-1 basis with coaches unable to vote for their own program in the poll.

Emory and Henry, which was picked fifth with 75 points, received W&L’s first-place vote.

Shenandoah opens its season Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. non-league match against Division II Shippensburg. The match will be played indoors at Winchester Country Club.
