SU roundup: Mohlmann garners ODAC honor

FOREST — Shenandoah University senior Jaclyn Mohlmann has been named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for women’s indoor track & field in selections announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

Mohlmann won the indoor pentathlon Friday afternoon at the Captains Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport, besting a 15-woman field that featured nine competitors from NCAA Divisions I and II.

Mohlmann won three of the five events in the competition and coasted home to a 93-point win.

On Saturday, she set a new school record in the 400 meters.

This is third time in the past two years she has earned ODAC Athlete of the Week accolades.

Mohlmann and her teammates are back in action on Feb. 8 at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport.

WINCHESTER — Shenandoah baseball coach Kevin Anderson announced Monday that he and his staff will be holding a free coaching clinic this weekend.

Anderson and assistants Bruce Cameron, Nick Sborz, Joe Bittner and Jacob Mays will hold the clinic beginning at 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning in Aikens Athletic Center on the Shenandoah University campus.

Clinic topics include coaching styles, warmups, hitting and pitching techniques as well as practice and game approaches designed to maximize efficiency and success.

The clinic is designed for youth and high school baseball and softball coaches.

“My assistants do a great job of teaching the game to our players, and I know this ability will translate to the youth coaches in the area,” Anderson stated in a news release. “I look forward to a great day of talking baseball.”

This clinic is offered on a bi-annual basis with the next one planned for late winter, 2017.
