Prep roundup: Central boys soccer loses close match to Mason
FALLS CHURCH – Central’s boys soccer team lost a close match on the road Wednesday night, falling to defending Group 2A state champ George Mason, 2-1.
The Mustangs (4-0, 4-0 Bull Run) scored goals in the 36th minute and the 63rd minute before Jose Martinez scored Central’s (1-2, 1-2) only goal off an assist by Ivan Alvarado with 10:30 left to play. Martinez’s goal was the first given up all year by George Mason.
Falcons freshman goalkeeper Dean Woodwell had 20 saves in the loss.

WOODSTOCK – Central’s baseball team lost its second straight home game on Wednesday evening as the Falcons fell to Bull Run District rival George Mason, 6-4.
The Mustangs scored five runs in the top of the first inning off Falcons starting pitcher Cody Sager (0-2).
Junior Cody Polk went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs for Central (1-3, 0-2 Bull Run), while senior Zach Hamman pitched six innings and struck out two.
George Mason’s Logan Nesson pitched a complete game and struck out 10 batters in the win.
Randolph-Macon Academy 10, Quantico 6
FRONT ROYAL – Host Randolph-Macon Academy picked up a 10-6 baseball win over visiting Quantico on Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (2-2), who tallied 13 hits in the win, broke a 6-6 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and added another run in the sixth.
Junior Drew Bendler led R-MA at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Robert DeBerry, who pitched the first 4 2/3 innings for R-MA, was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and Jeremiah Hixson, Doug Brennand and John Camarella each went 2-for-4 for the Yellow Jackets.
Sophomore Danny Chung earned the win on the mound for R-MA, as he went 2 1/3 innings and one strikeout, which ended a bases-loaded jam in the top of the fifth inning.
R-MA finished the game with 17 stolen bases, according to head coach Robert Locklear.
GORDONSVILLE — Randolph-Macon Academy’s golf team split a tri-match on Tuesday at Spring Creek Golf Club.
The Yellow Jackets topped Tandem Friends, 143-166, but fell to Steward, 118-143.
James Christoph fired a 10-over-par 46 to lead R-MA. The Yellow Jackets also got scoring finishes from Tommy Yu (47) and Joseph Silek (50). Jacob Karen added a 53 for R-MA.
Steward’s Owen Carter was the low medalist with a 38.
