Prep roundup: DeBerry paces R-MA’s 15-hit attack
FRONT ROYAL — Randolph-Macon Academy catcher Robert DeBerry was 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs as the Yellow Jackets rolled to a 20-7 inning-shortened baseball victory over Massanutten Military Academy on Thurday.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was moved up a day in anticipation of winter weather.
The Yellow Jackets needed just five innings to put away MMA, pounding out 15 hits to back starting pitcher Sam Schachter. That was plenty for Schachter, who worked three innings for the win and contributed a 2-for-2 effort at the plate.
Also for R-MA (1-0), John Camarella was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, Ben Hester went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Doug Brennand was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Highland School 6, SVCA 4
WARRENTON — Visiting SVCA rallied to tie in the top of the sixth inning, but Highland School plated two more runs in the bottom of the frame and held on for a 6-4 win on Thursday.
Down 4-2 heading into the sixth, the Patriots pulled even on Cody Robertson’s two-run double with two outs.
Aiden Nicholson paced SVCA (1-1) at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort with two runs scored and a stolen base, and Jack Margaros added a 2-for-3 day with a walk.
Lucas Pufnock started for the Patriots but didn’t factor in the decision. He struck out six batters in 3 1/3 innings and allowed two runs.
Warren County 3, Central 1
FRONT ROYAL – Warren County’s girls soccer team picked up a 3-1 win over visiting Central in Bull Run District/Conference 28 action Thursday night.
The Wildcats (1-1) received goals from Hannah Christman (15th minute), Lisette Moya (60th minute) and Courtney L’Amoreaux in the win. Nina Richards and L’Amoreaux had assists for Warren County.
Central’s lone goal came from Lauren Cook in the 62nd minute.
Rachel Liebl finished with two saves in the net for Warren County, while Jennifer Reynoso had 15 saves for Central (0-2).
Rappahannock County 1, Strasburg 0
STRASBURG – Strasburg’s girls soccer team fell to visiting Rappahannock County, 1-0, on Thursday in Bull Run District action.
Panthers senior Camaron Clark scored the game-winning goal in the final two minutes of regulation.
Strasburg sophomore goalkeeper Haley Bischoff had 15 saves for the Rams (0-2).
