Prep roundup: McLachlan, Troxell power Wildcats past Cougars

MANASSAS – Warren County’s softball team routed host Manassas Park, 19-3, in Bull Run District action on Tuesday evening.

Wildcats senior Paige McLachlan went 3-for-3 with a single, double, home run and three RBIs. She also pitched three innings and struck out four without allowing a baserunner.

Senior Autumn Troxell went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBIs for Warren County (2-0, 2-0 Bull Run).

FRONT ROYAL — Carrie Robinson and Michala Craig combined for a two-hitter as the Hawks beat the Judges in Northwestern District action.

Robinson and Craig combined to strike out 13. Makaela Dawkins had a grand slam to lead the Hawks (3-0) at the plate.

Girls soccer

Warren County 2, Manassas Park 0

MANASSAS – Warren County’s girls soccer team picked up a 2-0 Bull Run District win over host Manassas Park on Tuesday.

Wildcats freshman Shauna Sayers opened the scoring with a goal in the eighth minute off an assist from sophomore Rachel Skube. Junior Michaela Berry added Warren County’s second goal in the 65th minute off an assist by junior Courtney L’Amoreaux.

Rachel Liebl and Megan Henry combined for seven saves in goal for Warren County (2-1).


Strasburg 6, Madison County 0
STRASBURG — Mark Smoot threw a complete-game three-hitter to lead the Rams past the Mountaineers in Bull Run District action.

“Mark really threw the ball well. He had good command of the strike zone,” Strasburg assistant coach Joel Morgan said. “He really kept them off balance. He mixed up his fastball with his offspeed, and worked ahead of the hitters.”

The Rams had only four hits, but took advantage of three Madison County errors, along with several walks and hit batsmen. Noah St. Clair went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Josh Pritchett went 1 for 4 with two RBIs, and Ryan Bowers went 1 for 1 with a double and a run scored. Ryan Smoot executed a safety squeeze to score the Rams first run of the game.

Model School for the Deaf 16, MMA 5

WOODSTOCK — Visiting Model School for the Deaf put together a 10-run fourth inning to roll past host Massanutten Military Academy on Tuesday.

Damoni Gunter had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs for MMA.

Also for the Colonels, Robert Collins and Beau LaWatt had RBI singles, and Jeffrey Brown drove in a run.
