Prep roundup: Sherando boys soccer trounces Skyline

STEPHENS CITY – Sherando’s boys soccer team rolled to an 8-0 win over visiting Skyline in Northwestern District action Thursday evening.

Andrew Wade (one assist), Tommy Buono and Jack Flanagan each finished with two goals for the Warriors (4-1, 1-0 Northwestern), while Travis Ferraro and Nathaniel Pinto had a goal apiece. Sean Buono, Drew Berman and Jared Chicas all had assists for Sherando.

Warriors goalkeepers Kevin Riley and Brandon Teets combined for the shutout.


SVCA 5, Leesburg Christian 5

LEESBURG — Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy salvaged an eventual baseball tie with Leesburg Christian on Thursday.

With the field reserved for another game in an effort to beat the impending rainy weather, the Patriots rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Matt Rogers and Jack Margaros to tie the game at 5-all.

The host Lions couldn’t break through for a run in the bottom of the seventh, resulting in the tie.

Margaros was 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Also for the Patriots, Rogers was 1 for 2 with an RBI, two runs scored and had three stolen bases. Nick Bailey chipped in an RBI for SVCA.
