Prep roundup: Buono leads Warriors over Colonels

WINCHESTER – Tommy Buono scored two goals and added two assists as Sherando’s boys soccer team picked up a 6-1 road win over James Wood on Thursday evening.

Sherando (6-2-1) also received goals from Andrew Wade, Zach Warner, Nic Craig and Tanner Wernecke in the win. Wade, Rhett Morris, Anthony Pinto and Drew Berman had assists for the Warriors.

Kevin Riley notched four saves for Sherando, including a save on a penalty kick.


James Wood 3, Sherando 0

WINCHESTER — In a pitching matchup between Whitacres, James Wood’s Bryan Whitacre outdueled Sherando’s Adam Whitacre on Thursday in Northwestern District action.

Sherando (2-5, 1-1 Northwestern) mustered only three hits in the loss. Quentin Rohrbaugh had two of them with a 2-for-3 night at the plate. Myles McPartland added the other single for the Warriors.

Trinity 10, R-MA 1

CHANTILLY — Host Trinity jumped out to a quick lead with a four-run first inning and pulled away from there to top Randolph-Macon Academy on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets totaled just three hits in the loss. Robert DeBerry, R-MA’s starting pitcher who was tagged with the loss, was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a first-inning run on a wild pitch.

John Camarella had the only other hit for R-MA (2-5-1).

Girls soccer

Clarke County 4, Central 0

BERRYVILLE — Visiting Central held Clarke County to just one goal in the first half, but the host Eagles put the match away with three second-half tallies for a 4-0 girls soccer win on Thursday.

Clarke County outshot the Falcons, 20-6.

Central goalkeeper Vanessa Wheeler totaled 14 saves in the loss.
