Prep roundup: Cougars knock off Central in girls soccer

WOODSTOCK — Visiting Manassas Park picked up a 4-2 victory over Bull Run District rival Central in girls soccer action on Thursday night.

The Falcons got an unassisted goal from Brianna Burgwald and another goal from Lauren Cook off a Ciara Philpott assist, but it wasn’t enough against Manassas Park.

The Cougars outshot Central, 12-11. Falcons goalkeeper Vanessa Wheeler finished with nine saves.

Central dropped to 1-4-1 overall and in district play.


Highland School 11, R-MA 6

WARRENTON — Host Highland School burst out to a 10-run lead after three innings and held on the rest of the way for an 11-6 win over Randolph-Macon Academy in baseball action on Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets rallied back with a six-run outburst in the top of the fourth inning, but didn’t score again.

Doug Brennand was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and John Camarella was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

R-MA fell to 2-3-1 overall.
