Prep roundup: Hawks trounce Falcons in baseball

FRONT ROYAL — Skyline erupted for five runs in the first en route to an 11-3 victory over Central in Conference 28 baseball action on Monday.

The Hawks trailed 1-0 entering the bottom of the first, but responded in the bottom half of the inning and scored two more in the third for a 7-3 lead. The Hawks added four more in the bottom of the fourth.

Gavin Kandrick went 2 for 4 and Robert Presley had a triple to lead the Hawks (7-6). Cody Sager led the Falcons (3-8) with two hits, two stolen bases and an RBI. Hank Hoover went 2 for 4 with a stolen base for the Falcons.

STEPHENS CITY — Matt Rogers’ inside-the-park homer gave the Patriots the VACA conference win over the Crusaders.

Rogers’ homer broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth. SVCA’s Lucas Pufnock and Alex Mees combined for a three-hitter. Pufnock went 6.2 innings, allowing three hits and striking out seven. Mees went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored for the Patriots (7-3, 3-2 VACA).
