Prep roundup: Rams hold off Yellow Jackets
STRASBURG — Ryan Bowers pitched out of a jam in the seventh to help Strasburg preserve a 3-1 non-district baseball victory over Moorefield (W.Va.) on Monday night.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Bowers struck out the final batter to end the game. The Rams won despite only having two hits in the game, both by Ryan Smoot. Strasburg was able to take advantage of three Moorefield errors and several walks.
Smoot went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored. The senior had a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth. Garrett Richards started the game for Strasburg and struck out seven with no walks in five innings of work.
“We knew they had a pretty good team. It was a good pitching performance by our guys,” Strasburg assistant coach Joel Morgan said. “I think our kids really battled like you have to do against good teams.”
