Prep roundup: Wildcats falls to Mustangs in girls soccer
FRONT ROYAL — Warren County hung tough in the second of a 6-2 Bull Run District girls soccer loss to George Mason on Friday night.
Nina Petitt and Shauna Sayers each scored a goal for the Wildcats (4-4). Courtney L’Amoreaux and Nina Richards each had an assist for Warren County.
The Mustangs led 5-2 at the half, but the Wildcats stayed even with them in the second half. George Mason outshot Warren County, 20-8.
“The second half was probably one of the best [halves] of the season for us,” Warren County coach Mike Carpenter said. “We started connecting our passes and working together well. Defensively, we played solid in the second half.”
Track and field
PURCELLVILLE — Sherando finished sixth in the boys meet at the Wolverine Classic at Woodgrove High School. The Warriors finished with 51 points. Fauquier won the boys meet with 88.50 points. Sherando placed 11th in the girls meet with 28 points. Briar Wood won the girls meet with 80 points.
Sherando’s Trevor Whiteside won the 800 with a time of 1:58.41. He was also part of the winning 4×800 relay in a time of 8:12.95. Whiteside was joined by Thomas Shea, Thomas Powars and Jonah Pearson on the relay team.
Sherando’s Trent McCarty won the discus with a throw of 150-02.
