SU roundup: Hornets baseball rises a spot in poll

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn./ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Fresh off of its first-ever ODAC title, the Shenandoah University baseball team is up a total of one spot in two ranking polls released Tuesday.

The ODAC Champion Hornets (27-8-1) remain as the No. 8 team in the week 10 NCBWA/D3baseball.com poll and move up one spot to No. 9 in the ABCA poll.

SU went 4-1 last week, defeating Eastern Mennonite, Bridgewater, Randolph-Macon and Virginia Wesleyan on its way to the ODAC title.

As league champions, coach Kevin Anderson’s Hornets have automatic entry into the NCAA Division III Tournament. The tournament bids will be offically extended on May 11 with the regionals starting on May 13.

Shenandoah has 420 points in the D3baseball.com poll to come in behind No. 7 Wooster (Ohio) and ahead of No. 9 Kean (N.J.).

In the ABCA poll, the Hornets’ 327 points places the squad between Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) and Kean.

Cortland (N.Y.) State is the No. 1 team in both polls.
