SU roundup: Hornets compete in Division III track championships
LYNCHBURG – The Shenandoah University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams continued their quests to qualify for the 2015 NCAA Division III Championships Wednesday with a limited number of athletes competing at the Liberty University Twilight.
Coach Andy Marrocco had four men and four women competing in a total of eight events.
Senior Jaclyn Mohlmann was 31st in the 200 meters with a 27.70 and finished tied with classmate Emily Cobb for 17th in the 800 with identical 2:22.00 times.
Sophomores Danyelle McGrady and Morgan Smith both competed in the hammer throw with McGrady also throwing the javelin.
McGrady was the top Division III finisher with a seventh place showing in both events.
In the hammer, her 42.79 meter toss on the second attempt was .14 meters better than Smith’s 42.65 and gave her the seventh place spot.
Smith was eighth by better than a seven-meter margin.
McGrady’s 36.72 meter javelin throw, on her first attempt, gave her that seventh place finish.
On the men’s side, Everton Eastwood was 15th, Ansel Borhauer 19th and Travis Enterline 32nd in the 200 at 22.20, 22.84 and 24.60, respectively.
Eastwood’s finish was tops among Division III competitors.
Borhauer was also 12th in the 400 with a 49.60 while Enterline was 15th in the 400-meter hurdles at 59.75.
Phillip Way rounded out the men’s participants by competing in the hammer throw. He was 10th with a 37.75.
The post-season qualification attempts continue this weekend with participation in the Princeton University Open.
