Prep roundup: Rams rally past Mustangs

FALLS CHURCH — Strasburg moved closer to wrapping up the Bull Run District regular season title with a 3-1 baseball victory over George Mason on Monday night.

The Rams trailed 1-0 after three innings, but scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good. Strasburg added another run in the top of the seventh.

Noah St. Clair went 3 for 3 with a double and a run scored, and Josh Pritchett went 2 for 3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI for the Rams (17-0, 14-0 Bull Run). Nate Butler went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Strasburg. Garrett Richards (5-0) pitched six innings and had four strikeouts for the Rams. Ryan Smoot pitched in the seventh and picked up his second save of the season.

“I thought Garrett through the ball pretty well, and defensively we were solid,” Strasburg assistant coach Joel Morgan said. “In the end we came through with a few timely hits. …It’s another three-game week for us against three pretty good opponents. …To get a win against George Mason is a good way to start off the week.”

Strasburg now has a two-game lead on George Mason with two games left in the regular season.
