Prep roundup: Sherando’s Whitacre, Michaud combine for no-hitter
WINCHESTER — Sherando’s Adam Whitacre and Ty Michaud combined on a no-hitter as the Warriors beat James Wood, 10-0, and advanced to the Conference 21 baseball tournament semifinals on Tuesday. Sherando will play at Millbrook on Friday in the semifinals at 6 p.m. The game was called after six innings due to the mercy rule.
Whitacre threw a no-hitter earlier this season against the Colonels. Whitacre threw three perfect innings on Tuesday, with three strikeouts. Michaud pitched three innings and struck out seven with one walk.
“This is our twenty-first game and we finally put all four phases of the game together,” Sherando coach Pepper Martin said. “We had excellent pitching, good defense. …Timely hitting and smart aggressive baserunning. What better time to put it all together than in the playoffs.”
Martin said Whitacre threw 34 pitches and Michaud threw 42. Connor Stevenson went 2 for 2 with two doubles and an RBI, and Myles McPartland was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Michael White went 1 for 3 with two RBIs for the Warriors (9-12).
