Frederick County advances to Junior League championship

Frederick County National advanced to the Junior League World Series championship on Saturday evening with a 7-4 victory over Johnston Little League (Iowa) in the U.S. Final in Lake Taylor, Michigan.

Frederick County will play Chung Shan Junior Little League (Chinese Taipei) in the championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be aired on ESPN.

Federick County, the Southeast Region champion, had lost to Iowa, 9-4, earlier in the week in bracket pool play.

Michael Usa pitched 4.2 innings, allowing just seven hits and three runs. He struck out three.

Frederick County took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Haden Madagan and a single by USA.

In the bottom of the second Frederick County stretched the lead to 4-0.

Johnston Little League cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the third.

Nick Mazza had a third inning two-run homer as Frederick County scored three more runs to take a 7-2 edge. Calvin Bower also had an RBI single in the inning.

Madagan and Chandler Ballenger each had two hits for Frederick County.

Chinese Taipei won the International tournament without losing a game.
