Junior League team reaches World Series
The Frederick County National Junior League all-stars are going to the Junior League Baseball World Series.
Frederick County National picked up a 10-0, five-inning victory over Goodlettsville [Tennessee] Baseball Little League on Wednesday afternoon in the Southeast Regional championship to earn a spot in the Junior League (13-14 year old) World Series held Aug. 16-23 in Taylor, Michigan.
It will be the first World Series appearance for any team in the Frederick County National Little League, which is based in of Stephens City.
The Frederick County National Junior League all-stars, who won the Virginia State Junior League Tournament last week, went 3-1 in the Southeast Regional, which began last Friday in Greenville, South Carolina, and included seven state champions from Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
Frederick County National opened the regional tournament with a 9-7 win over Darlington County [South Carolina] Little League on Saturday before falling to Goodlettsville, 14-6, Monday morning. A 7-6 win over North Springs [Florida] Little League on Tuesday sent Frederick County National into Wednesday’s championship game.
The Junior League Baseball World Series will be composed of the five champions from the Central, East, Southeast, Southwest and West regions in the United States Division, as well as the four International Division champions from the Asia-Pacific, Canada, Europe-Africa and Latin America regions.
