SU roundup: Women’s lacrosse earns academic honor
The Shenandoah University women’s lacrosse team has earned academic honors in selections announced Monday by the International Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association.
According to a news release, Shenandoah’s 21-woman squad earned a collective 3.17 GPA to become one of 128 NCAA Division III schools to earn IWLCA Academic Team accolades.
The Hornets are one of seven Old Dominion Athletic Conference institutions to be honored by the organization.
Shenandoah coach Lindsey Lutz had 13 of her 21 student-athletes earn at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Nine of those 13 achieved at least a 3.5 according to the press release.
Shenandoah’s Liz Bereit and Becky Bove had perfect 4.0 GPAs.
Track and field schedule announced
Shenandoah University head track and field Coach Andy Marrocco announced his 2015-16 indoor and outdoor track & field schedules on Monday morning.
The indoor season is scheduled to begin on Dec. 5 at Christopher Newport and includes five additional meets prior to the ODAC Championships on Feb. 28.
Shenandoah will again host those championships, returning to the Prince George’s Sports Complex in Landover, Maryland, for the second straight year.
The other indoor meets on the regular season slate include Liberty on Jan. 15-16, the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College on Jan. 30-31, the Vince Brown Invitational at CNU on February 7 and the Susquehanna Invitational on February 13.
The final indoor meet — the Navy Sweetheart Multimix on Feb. 11 — is for the women’s team only.
March brings the outdoor portion of the schedule, with the squad traveling to Salisbury, Washington and Lee and Bridgewater for weekend meets.
The Liberty Intercollegiate on April 8-9 is the final tuneup before the ODAC Championships April 22-23.
Six meets for likely national qualifiers are planned following the ODAC Championships, including the Penn Relays the final week of April and the Virginia Grand Prix on May 6.
