On Campus: Miller’s success continues at Concord

Aaron Miller (Sherando ’13) is off to another great start at Concord University.

The junior is second on the men’s basketball team, averaging 19.0 points per game.

Miller has started all eight games for the Mountain Lions and is shooting 46.3 percent (50 for 108) from the field, and 41.5 percent (22 for 53) from 3-point range.

He is also averaging 4.4 rebounds per contest and is third on the team with 13 assists.

In an 86-77 victory over Livingstone College on Nov. 14, Miller had 24 points, four rebounds and two assists. Miller was 6 for 9 from 3-point range in the game.

On Nov. 27, Miller had a team-high 23 points and five rebounds in an 81-66 win over Bluefield State College. Miller went 8 for 16 from the floor.

The Mountain Lions are 7-1 overall, and 3-1 in the Mountain East Conference. The only loss came to West Virginia Wesleyan College, 90-89 in triple overtime. Miller had 11 points and three rebounds in the loss.

The Mountain Lions play at Davis & Elkins on Monday at 7 p.m.

Freshman success: Jess Hakel (Sherando ’15) is having a solid freshman season for Potomac State College.

Hakel is averaging 6.0 points per game and leads the team with 26 assists, 3.7 per game. She has started all seven games for Potomac State, and is averaging 3.7 rebounds per game.

She is shooting 38.6 percent (17 for 44) from the field. She also has three steals.

Hakel had a season-high 12 points in an 83-78 victory over College of Southern Maryland on Nov. 17. She also had five assists and three rebounds in the win.

Potomac State is 4-2 on the season.

Potomac State is off until Jan. 9 when it hosts Butler County Community College at noon.

Solid start: Courtni Green (Millbrook ’12) is helping the University of Delaware’s women’s basketball team to a winning season.

The Blue Hens are 4-3 on the season.

Green is averaging 8.3 points and is third on the team with nine assists. She is shooting 36.4 percent (20 for 55) from the field. She has made 10 of her 11 free throws (90.9 percent) and is averaging 2.1 rebounds per contest.

Green led the team in scoring in the season opener against Lafayette with 19 points and also had one assists and one steal in the 67-47 victory on Nov. 13.

She has started four of the seven games. On Monday, the Blue Hens lost to George Mason, 90-83 in double overtime and Green had three points.

The Blue Hens play at Georgetown University on Thursday.
