Rain suspends county track meet
Teams to conclude rest of the events at a date to be determined
STRASBURG – The Shenandoah County track meet was suspended on Monday due to heavy rain storms that came through the area, but there were plenty of events that did get completed.
The meet will be concluded at a day to be announced later. Strasburg, Central, Stonewall Jackson and Massanutten Military Academy participated in the meet.
Central’s Saxon Franklin had some good early results as he won the triple jump and finished third in the long jump.
Central’s Brooke Ryman won two events — the triple jump and the long jump — in the girls meet.
Strasburg’s boys were given a big boost by junior Elijah Waters, who won the 110 hurdles and the long jump. Waters entered the meet as the third seed in the long jump. He was scheduled to compete in the 300 hurdles, where he was the top seed, before the rain came.
Central’s Coy Jimenez won the 100-meter dash. Central’s 4×800 relay team of Wyatt Robinson, Mason Lucy-Speidel, Sawyer Lucy-Speidel and A.J. Crider won in a tough battle with Strasburg.
Stonewall Jackson’s Haley Bennett, Brandy Webb, Angela Misquith and Hayley Gibson combined to win the girls 4×800 relay race over Central.
Stonewall Jackson’s Destiny Neff won the girls 100-meter dash.
Strasburg’s Ryan Day won the boys shot put, and teammate Rachel Funkhouser won the girls discus.
Strasburg’s Jesse Boyce won the girls high jump, while Stonewall Jackson’s Isaac Blank won the boys high jump.
