Prep roundup: Wildcats fall to Mountaineers in overtime
MADISON –Warren County lost a heart-breaker on Friday night.
The Wildcats fell to Madison County 26-20, in overtime in Bull Run District football action.
The Mountaineers seemed primed to get the win in regulation after a Madison County touchdown put them on top 20-17 with 30 seconds left.
Warren County (1-3, 0-1 Bull Run) moved the ball quickly down the field. A R.J. Keeney pass to Brendan McMackin moved the ball to the Madison County 15-yard line. Warren County’s Stuart Ashley then drilled a field goal to send the game into overtime.
Madison County intercepted a Keeney pass on Warren County’s first series, and then the Mountaineers scored a touchdown on their series to win the game.
Keeney threw two touchdown passes in the game, one to McMackin and one to Ben Vogt.
“The kids fought hard,” Warren County assistant coach Brett Holmes said. “They played hard until the end. We had a couple bad breaks, but we battled back.”
