The following are some of the area recreational events that are being held:
James Madison University Softball will present Shenandoah Saturday as they host the JMU Softball Invitation Tournament at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday in Harrisonburg.
The JMU team will take on the University of Pittsburgh at 11 a.m. followed by a 1:30 p.m. game against East Carolina University.
Strasburg Mayor Rich Orndorff Jr. will throw out the first pitch for the East Carolina game. There will also be contests, prizes and sponsored giveaways as well as post-game autographs with JMU teammates.

Bryce Resort in Basye will hold its annual Winterfest Celebration on Saturday. There will be a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Fireside Grill, a polar plunge at 9 a.m. at the Pump House on Fairway Drive, costume parade slope-side at 11 a.m., pond skimming at 2 p.m. and live music by DJ Ethan. Warren County Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with the Skyline Wresting Club, will sponsor the Sick Nasty Freestyle Club for serious wrestlers March 14 through May 11 at Skyline High School.
The club will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sundays and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays. The cost is $200 for a family membership of $120 for an individual membership. Guests are welcome at $10 each per clinic for members or $30 each per clinic for non-members.

The Mountain Vista Governor’s School Parent Teacher Organization in Middletown is sponsoring a Leprechaun Leap 5K on March 18 at Blandy Experimental Farm in Boyce.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m. Winner and age group prizes and door prizes.

The Shamrock 5K Trail Run, a beginner 5K, will be held at 9 a.m. March 18 at Hillandale Park in Harrisonburg. The run will be held rain or shine. Proceeds benefit the Shenandoah Valley High Rollers Wheelchair Basketball Team. Information: Erik Dart at 540-433-9168.
Biologist Hannah Bement, a science teacher at Randolph-Macon Academy, will lead a vernal pool walk and talk at 1 p.m. March 19 at Shenandoah River State Park’s Primitive Campground parking lot at 350 Daughter of the Stars Drive, Bentonville.
Vernal pools are a form of temporary freshwater wetland that contains water for a portion of the year supporting an array of wildlife and plants, some specially adapted for these pools with many rare species in Virginia. Information: Friends of the Shenandoah River, 540-622-6840.
March 25 is the deadline for teams to register for summer softball leagues sponsored by Warren County Parks/Rec.
The Men’s League will play on Mondays and Wednesdays. The Women’s League will play on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
