On Campus Notebook: Ansbro earns Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honor
Bekah Ansbro (Central ’16) earned the Atlantic 10 Softball Rookie of the Week honor last week.
The George Mason University freshman pitcher picked up her first win of the season on April 1 against Dayton University.
She pitched five innings in relief, gave up only one run, and struck out six as the Patriots beat the Flyers, 6-5.
The next day, Ansbro pitched two innings and didn’t allow a run in a 6-0 loss to Dayton. She had a weekend ERA of 1.00.
For the season Ansbro has pitched in 18 games, including eight starts. She has a 1-7 record with a 4.25 ERA and one save. Ansbro has pitched 51 innings, second on the team, and has 23 strikeouts.
On April 5, she allowed only one run on three hits in four innings of work against the University of Virginia.
In a 3-1 victory over Bethune Cookman on March 14, Ansbro pitched 2.2 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two to earn her first career save.
The Patriots are 11-24, including 5-4 in the Atlantic 10.
SOPHOMORE SUCCESS: Tyler Ritenour (Skyline ’15) is enjoying a solid season on the mound at Garrett College.
The sophomore pitcher has a 1-0 record with a save this season.
On March 17, Ritenour went 4.2 innings, allowed just three hits and struck out four in a 10-4 victory over Thomas Nelson Community College.
On March 21, Ritenour went 2.1 innings and struck out four in an 8-7 loss to Hudson Valley Community College.
On March 26, Ritenour pitched three innings in relief in an 8-2 loss to Shenandoah University’s junior varsity team. He allowed four hits and struck out one in his three innings.
The Lakers are 13-15 on the season, including 3-4 in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.
RECORD BREAKER: Jacob Carney (Sherando ’13) became Shepherd University’s all-time hits leader on Sunday.
The senior first baseman passed Nathan Minnich and Michael Lott to become the all-time hits leader with his 251st career hit at Shepherd in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday over Urbana College.
Carney went 4-for-7 in the victory with two runs scored and an RBI.
Carney leads the Rams with a .358 batting average (39-for-109) this season. He has 12 RBIs, four doubles, one home run and 30 runs scored.
Teammate Reid Entsminger (Sherando ’14) is hitting .313 (10-for-32) with two homers, eight RBIs, eight runs scored and one triple for the Rams.
Pitcher John Bentley (Sherando ’13) has pitched a team-best 44.1 innings with a 3-4 record. He has a 5.48 ERA and has 39 strikeouts.
The Rams are 17-14, with a 14-2 record in the Mountain East Conference.
