Gerald Almy: Lots of exciting new products for hunters this year
Sure, it’s only May. But as turkey season winds down, most hunters are already thinking ahead toward fall whitetail deer and bear seasons or maybe planning a hunt out West for antelope, elk or mule deer. Here are a few new offerings for this year that might be of interest if your optics, packs, guns, or ammo need restocking.
Montana Rifle ALR American Legends Rifle. This beautifully-designed rifle for long action calibers features an AA Grade American black walnut stock with black tip and grip, raised cheek-piece, and wraparound front checkering. The 24-inch barrel is free-floated, hand-lapped, and button rifled. Sauer 404 Synchro XTC. This is the newest member of Sauer’s 404 family of firearms. It features a 100 percent carbon fiber stock and aluminum receiver, keeping weight down to a light 6.1 pounds. The stock is hand-layered and cast and sealed in synthetic resin to ensure rigidity and the lowest possible recoil.
The modular cheek piece is adjustable for a custom fit, and the XTC’s trigger can be set at four pull weights–1.2, 1.6, 2.2, and 2.7 pounds. The barrel is cold hammer-forged and scope bases are integral with the receiver.
