SVSRL Mini Cups were on the track to start the night and as it had been most of the year, Steve Teter and Tim Brown Jr were on the front row. Teter jumped out to the early lead with Brown and Joseph Bisson tucked in behind and two caution periods would slightly change the running order as on the final green flag restart, Brown would jump to the outside of Teter to pick up the win. Teter would finish second followed by Bisson, Steven Shreck and Mark Lockcuff rounding out the top five.

UCAR action saw Randy Good capture the pole with Lauren Edgerton alongside and as the green flag waved Good scooted out to a comfortable lead. Edgerton however was left to battle with Chris Grogg for second. Back in the pack the cars of Aaron Bell, Jeremy Griffith and Brandon Johnson had their own competition going as they were rubbing and bumping on each lap. On lap 16 that would all come to a halt as Johnson and Bell got out of sorts coming out of turn 2, the #00 Johnson car would slam into the wall and totally destroy the front end of the car. Bell however got the worst end of the deal as he was totally unconscious when the rescue workers got to him. Bell was transported to the hospital but was released later in the night with a mild concussion. Good would take the win followed by Grogg and Edgerton.

INEX Legends would take to the track for the final time this season with Michael Edwards on the pole with a time of 17.733 with Kevin Bush alongside at 17.448. However when the flag waved Dusty Summers followed Edwards on the inside to take over the second spot followed by Scotty Edwards in third. Lap after lap the #44 of Summers was beating on the back bumper of Michael Edwards and was warned by track officials on the radio to cease the over aggressive driving. Summers ignored the warning and on the very next lap spun the leader on the front stretch. Both cars were sent to the rear of the field giving the top spot to Scotty Edwards who would take the win followed by Kevin Bush and Sergio Pena in third. Summers was disqualified.

VMCRA Mini Cups were on the track with Quinn Houff on the pole with Ben Roundabush on the outside. However the positions would not stay like that for long as the #77 of Ryan Adams was on the move and passed the #17 Houff machine with a strong move to the outside. There were very few caution periods which led to some very interesting and exciting racing through out the field. Late in the race Adams seemed to slightly slow down and that allowed Hunter Koschara and Travis Roach to both get past. Koschara would hold on to take the win with Roach in second and a very upset Adams in third.

Street Stock action would have Sparky Staton on the pole with the 83x of Larry Smith alongside. Staton would lead flag to flag unchallenged for the win with Smith and Mike Gund rounding out the top three.

Chad Click would pace the Sportsman Class with a time of 16.354 with Kevin Powell alongside at 17.385. Click would set the early pace followed by the #23 of Brandon Comer, Powell and Ty Miller. Comer had his car sideways several times in an attempt to catch the #38 of Click but to no avail as Click would drive away to secure the win as Comer, Miller, Mike Southers and Powell rounded out the top five.

Late Model action had Kevin Bush with top spot at 15.562 and Sergio Pena returning to his home track on the outside at 15.583. In the early action Pena would jump out to a comfortable lead over Bush and third place driver Brian Purdham and would lap a big part of the field as the first 50 laps were run caution free. However that would all come to an end on lap 58 as there were three caution periods in three laps as the #58 Paul Green got into the back of #55 John Skelly. On lap 69, Green again would spin Skelly and be penalized 1 lap for aggressive driving. Pena would again pull away for the win with Bush in second and "Rookie" Jason Adkins picking up third.

The last race of the season belonged to the Ladies in the She-Car race which only had 3 cars because of the damage and mechanical issues of the guys' in the UCAR race earlier in the evening. That however would not dampen their spirits or fun as Bobbi Jo Good would take the win followed by Lori Grogg and Jennifer Miller.

The unofficial results for 2009 Shenandoah Speedway Track Champions are:
1.	Late Model - Brian Purdham
2.	Sportsman - Deryl Lawson
3.	Street Stock - Mike Gund
4.	UCAR - Jeremy Griffith
5.	INEX Legends - Scotty Edwards
6.	VMCRA Mini Cups - Hunter Koschara
7.	SVSRL Mini Cups - Steve Teter

The full moon overlooking Shenandoah Speedway seemed to intensify as the racing action began on a very cool autumn night. However, by the end of the night no one seemed to notice as the crowd was still on their feet applauding the conclusion of what some claimed to be the "best Late Model race I have ever seen."

The INEX Legends were the first out with Kevin Bush starting on the pole of the 16-car field; however, the "full moon" theory got an early start when on the very first lap several cars got together in turn 3. As a result of the "overaggressive" driving of their fellow competitors, Bush and the 09 of Nick Carlson both were done for the night with damaged cars. Things went a little smoother on the next restart but some of the drivers were still aggressive as the #44 of Dusty Summers and #20 of Cameron Patrick began bumping their way to the front. Leader Michael Edwards tried to hold off the hard charging Patrick, but to no avail as Patrick, Summers and Scotty Edwards blew past. On lap 20, Patrick literally ran into some lap traffic as the #92 of Kenny Aubrey Sr and the #27 of Roger Addison apparently were not quick enough to get out of the leader's way. The ill-advised move allowed Summers to dive to the inside to take the lead and dropped Patrick back into 4th position. The final laps were run caution free and at the end it was Summers, Patrick and Scotty Edwards as the top three.

Lauren Edgerton led flag to flag in the UCAR race as the young lady was barely challenged in the 25-lap event. Chriss Grogg finished in second with Ronnie Cubbage a distant third.

The VMCRA 25 lap race seemed to have the "full moon" drop on it event as caution after caution happened. Pole-sitter Hunter Koschara paced the field in the early going but each time the youngster would build up a good lead, the caution flag would fly. Early on it was the #27 car of Justin Laduke, then the #33 of Tammi Cook had back to back spins. Then finally on lap 16 the #2 car of Travis Roach spun the leader coming out of turn 4, sending both cars to the rear of the field. On the restart, the #9 of Scotty Roach took off and was never threatened in picking up the win. Ryan Adams and Justin Laduke rounded out the top three.

In Street Stock action Sparky Staton picked up the win followed by fast-improving Jeremy Grogg and R.J. Judd

Sportsman action had the #9 of Sam Hunt on the pole with a time of 16.260 with Chad Click alongside at 16.470. But as the green flag dropped, Click jumped out to the lead with Hunt following close behind. Lap after lap Hunt started to narrow the gap and as the white flag flew he made one last attempt to get by the leader and spun coming out of turn 2. Click would take his first-ever Shenandoah Speedway win with Deryle Lawson crossing in second and Billy Keyes in third.

The 4C Super Modifieds were in town for their 25-lap event and put on a good show as pole-sitter Mike Renn picked up the win followed by Steve Wrenn in second and Wes Gilbert in third.

The 75-lap Late Model race was definitely a story of two different races as the drivers laid back and saved their best for the last 25 laps. Pole-sitter Kevin Bush paced the field with a time of 15.631 with Brian Purdham alongside on the front row at 15.855. The drivers raced side by side for the first two laps until Purdham got the edge to take the lead.

The racing action then seemed to move into a slower gear for the next 50 laps with the only real action being a couple of spins provided by the #11 car of Jeff Abbott. Then on lap 55 things started to heat up as Bush began inching closer to Purdham for the top spot, but back in the field the #01 car of Jason Adkins had caught the #38 of Mark Cook. On lap 62 Purdham slid up coming out of turn 4, allowing Bush to move to the inside and drivers started what would become an instant classic. Side by side, door to door, lap after lap these two weekend warriors battled while only making slight contact on one occasion.

Behind all of this great action was another battle of the same situation but with Adkins "the rookie" driver getting alongside and passing the "wily old veteran" Cook. When the white flag came out for the final lap, the Purdham and Bush machines seemed to be glued to each other entering turn 1. As this was happening in the front of the field, the #01 Adkins car got spun by Cook coming out of turn 4, sending the rookie into the outside and out of contention. Back up front, Purdham held his ground on the outside of the #51 Bush car and as the pair rounded turn 2 they made slight contact which sent Bush spinning to the inside but with no contact to the wall. Purdham crossed the finish line to pick up the win and hold onto his points lead with Cook finishing in second and first-time visitor Joey Mahaney in third. Bush and Purdham met at the finish line after the conclusion of the race to shake hands as both drivers agreed that the accident was just a racing deal.

Shenandoah Speedway will wrap up the season this week, Oct. 10, with racing action in all eight classes. Late Models, Sportsman, Street Stock, INEX Legends, VMCRA Mini Cups, SVSRL Mini Cups, UCARS and the ladies in the She-Cars.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m., Main gates at 5 p.m. with racing action at 7 p.m.

The past 5 Late Model races have been won by Kevin Bush or points leader Brian Purdham and Saturday night was no exception as Bush picked up his 4th win since August 8th.

After qualifying on the pole earlier in the evening Bush was relegated to a #6 starting position due to an invert. That put veteran driver Johnny Lowery on the front row with Jeff Abbott, Jason Adkins, Purdham and Mark Cook lined up close behind.

Lowery held the early lead, but on lap 17 Bush was knocking on the door and when the Lowery machine got a little loose coming out of turn 2, Bush slid by on the inside to claim the top spot.

Abbott had a solo spin bringing out the caution flag on lap 27 which allowed the field to close back up until lap 32 when Abbott again went around and decided to park the ill-handling race car for the evening. As this was going on, the #77 Purdham machine finally got by Lowery and set his sights on the leader, but on lap 40 the 01 car of Jason Adkins was punted by the #44 of Wes Branner, bringing out the 4th caution of the event, and one lap later John Skelley spun to bring out the fifth and final caution.

For the remainder of the 75-lap feature, Bush maintained a comfortable lead over Purdham with the real battle going on between Lowery, Mark Cook, Adkins and 16-year-old driver Sam Hunt as they battled door to door for the next 30 laps. As the checkers dropped, it was Bush for the win followed by Purdham, Lowery, Adkins and first-time track visitor Sam Hunt rounding out the top 5.

Kevin Bush was a two-time race and pole winner as he drove the #38 car of Roger Freeze to victory lane on Saturday night in the INEX Legends 25 lap feature.

Patrick Lyden started on the pole after the 4-car invert with Michael Edwards and Dusty Summers lined up to do battle. Lyden, of Erie, Pa., was making his first visit to Shenandoah Speedway but it didn't take him long to find his groove as he jumped out to lead with Summers actually on his bumper for several laps.

Bush passed Lyden and Summers a few laps later while using the outside groove to do so and take the lead.

Again the battle was behind the leader as Summers loosened the bumper of Lyden and a few laps later Lyden spun and was never a factor after that. Summers, Michael and Scotty Edwards battled for the remaining15 laps and as Bush picked up the win, Summers came across in second with Michael Edwards passing his father on the last lap for third.

UCARS had "rookie" driver Phillip Morris on the pole after the full field invert with Ronnie Cubbage on the outside. But the drivers to watch in this race would be the 6th and 7th place cars of Chris Grogg and Randy Good as they picked their way through the field to take over the top two spots.

Over the last 10 laps, the first year driver (Grogg) did his best to block the veteran Good from taking the lead. Time after time the #21 car had the opportunity to turn the #71 machine or bump him to get him loose, but that never happened as they raced bumper to bumper or side by side, and when it was over Grogg had his first ever "official" UCAR win with Good finishing in an unfamiliar second place and Aaron Bell rounding out the top three.

In Street Stock action, the Grogg family had winning on their mind as "rookie" Jeremy Grogg picked up his first ever win with Keith Griffith and R.J. Judd rounding out the field.

In Sportsman racing action, Sam Hunt picked up his first ever win at Shenandoah Speedway as he over took Donald Hensley (another first timer) on the final few laps of the 35 lap event. Earlier in the evening Jr Wright had the quick time in qualifying and started up front with Hensley alongside, but when the green dropped it was all Hensley.

For several laps and numerous caution periods, Hensley held a comfortable lead but with just a handful of laps remaining, Hunt, who had battled his way through the field after starting back in 8th position, was on the bumper of Hensley and when Hensley got a little loose, Hunt sped by to take the win. Hensley picked up second with Jr Wright in third and points leader Deryle Lawson and Tommy Adams rounding out the top five.

VMCRA (Virginia Mini Cup Racing Association) were on deck for their 50-lap feature with a first-time pole sitter in Quinn Houff of Weyers Cave in the Cusson Racing Impala.

Starting alongside Houff would be the #77 Ryan Adams machine, and it wouldn't take long for Adams to show his muscle as he took the lead early on with Justin LaDuke in the #27 moving around Houff into the second spot.

On lap 8, the #34 of David Williams and the #19 of Kevin Berkstresser got tangled up coming out of turn 2, sending the Berkstresser machine into a barrel roll down the back straightaway. Fast-responding fire, rescue and track personnel were on the scene in a matter of seconds to remove Berkstresser, who luckily had only suffered a few bumps and bruises. The race would resume and as the checkered flag would drop, Adams would pick up the win followed by LaDuke and Hunter Koschara in third.

Racing action will continue next Saturday, Sept. 26, with racing action in 6 classes featuring the Late Models, Sportsman, Street Stock, INEX Legends, UCARS and SVSRL Mini Cups, along with bicycle races for the kids 12 and under.
The Super Cup series returned to Shenandoah Speedway on Saturday night for the second time this season. The results this time around were definitely different as the drivers were able to complete all of their scheduled laps compared to a rained out 28 lap feature on their prior visit.

Harvey Harrison of Renick, WV took the pole position for the first 50 lap event with a time of 16.626 with series points leader Tyler Nuckles of Groveport, Ohio alongside at 16.667.

When the green flag dropped, Harrison jumped out to a huge lead with Nuckles, Mike Mohelski Jr and Jody Harrison III giving chase. The event was run caution free until lap 48 when the #13 car of Craig Wood spun while exiting turn 4.

In the racing world there is a phrase that states "cautions breed cautions" and so it was to be on this night as on the restart the #71 Nuckles car got loose and clipped the #75 Jody Harrison car, sending Harrison hard into the turn 3 wall. Both drivers were okay but the #75 car was finished for the night with the #71 car returning to the track. As the checkered flag flew Harvey Harrison picking up the win followed by Larry Wilcox and Mohelski Jr.

In the second 50 lap feature of the evening Nuckles led the field to the green flag and jumped out to a commanding lead with Harvey Harrison giving chase. In the end Nuckles would take the win with Harrison and Larry Wilcox in 2nd and 3rd respectfully

SVSRL Mini Cups were led by Tim Brown in qualifying with a time of 18.434 and Waynesboro driver Steve Teter alongside at 18.676. 25 laps and 2 cautions later it would end the same way with Brown picking up the win, Teter in second and Tyler Staton in third.

INEX Legends would take to the track for their 25 lap feature with the familiar faces of the father-son duo of Scotty and Michael Edwards qualifying on the front row along with Kevin Bush driving the #38 car owned by Roger Freeze of Luray. Just as in recent Legend races, Michael takes the pole and leads the first 20 laps but Scotty finds a way to squeeze by and take the win and so it would repeat itself on Saturday night with Bush rounding out the top three.

Ryan Adams would take the pole and the win in the Virginia Mini Cup 25 lap feature with Hunter Koschara and Justin LaDuke in 2nd and 3rd.

Street Stock action had Mike Gund, R.J. Judd and Larry Smith finishing in the top three with 'Rookie" driver Jeremy Grogg picking up 4th in his first ever Street Stock race.

Deryle Lawson of Elkton took the win in the Sportsman race followed by Billy Keyes and Larry Wood in second and third.

The Late Model division would finish out the evening with their 75 lap main event and cars of Kevin Bush and current points leader Brian Purdham alongside on the front row. The racing action was tight throughout the field as the drivers positioned themselves for good finish.

Several caution periods for single car spins would bunch the field up and each time Bush would hold the top spot with Purdham only a car length back in second. As the battle up front continued the #8 of Sparky Staton and the #38 of Mark Cook battled over the final 5 laps with one and then the other gaining a slight edge and both cars getting loose from time to time.

As the checkered flag dropped, Bush would cross first to take the win followed by Purdham in second but the race for third was door to door as Staton Cook entered turn 3 side by side. Both cars made contact which sent Staton into the outside turn 4 wall, at full speed into the drivers' door. The hit that followed was described and confirmed as being the hardest hit in the history of Shenandoah Speedway.

Winner Kevin Bush graciously accepted the winner's trophy but his thought's and concern's were with Staton and his family. Staton was flown to the University Of Virginia Medical Center where he has been listed as in serious but stable condition.

Racing action continues next week as the Rich Tobias Speedster's visit the track and racing action in 5 exciting classes.

Scotty Edwards picked up his 5th INEX Legend win of the season on Saturday and increasing his points lead while doing so.

Michael Edwards captured the pole with Scotty on the outside followed by Roger Freeze and Sean Commo. The younger Edwards didn't make it easy for his father as he held him off lap after lap but eventually the "wily" older veteran made a dive to the inside to take the lead and the win.

Michael finished in 2nd with Commo rounding out the top three.

SVSRL Mini Cups had a full field of cars show up for their 50 lap race with Waynesboro driver Steve Teter taking the pole position and Tim Brown alongside. The early part of the race was full of caution flags as the drivers had adjusting to a slick track and to each other's driving styles but in the end had one of the most exciting finishes of the season.

Teter held the lead for most of the race but with 2 laps to go Brown passed him on the inside going into turn one. From that point on the leaders ran side by side while splitting lap cars inside, outside and finally in turn 2 of the last lap going 4 wide with the lap cars of Larry Whitis and Steven Shreck.

Whitis got loose in front of the #1 car of Tyler Staton and hit the wall head on at full speed. Whitis suffered a severe head laceration and was transported to Rockingham Memorial Hospital; further medical updates were not available.

Brown held on for the win with Teter in 2nd and Matt Custer in 3rd.

In Street Stock action Mike Gund picked up the win with Larry Smith in 2nd and R.J. Judd taking 3rd.

Sportsman division had the #99 car of pole sitter Jr. Wright leading the first half of the race but on lap 28 suffered a mechanical issue which handed the race lead to Deryl Lawson.

The second place car of Tommy Adams had something go wrong with his car at the same time but due to the quick work of his crew was able to rejoin the field without losing a lap. In the end it was Lawson the current points leader picking up the win with Billy Keyes taking second and Tommy Adams Jr salvaging a third place finish.

The Late Model field although smaller than usual had some exciting moments near the end of the race as points and race leader Brian Purdham had heavy pressure from Kevin Bush. The two drivers never made contact but raced door and bumper to bumper for 50 laps.

In the end Purdham held off the late race charge of Bush to pick up the win with Bush in second and Sparky Staton in 3rd.

Shenandoah Speedway will be closed next week but will reopen on August 29 with racing action in 7 exciting classes and featuring the Super Cup Series as they make a return visit to the area.

For more info contact the speedway office at 540-652-1108 or check us out on the web at: www.shenandoahspeedway.com

Racing action was hard and tight until Jeremy Grogg brought out the only caution period while completeing a solo spin and bunching the field back up. For the next 17 laps the cars of Griffith, Chris Grogg and Randy Good would race side by side and bumper to bumper, it's called "rubbin" and "racin" and they showed the other classes that you don't need wrecks and cautions to put on a good show. As the laps wound, Good passed Griffith and Grogg to take the lead, but Grogg gave it one last shot on the last turn of the last lap but came up short as Good picked up his 6th win of the 2009 campaign.

In Late Model action, the #51 car of Kevin Bush picked up wins in both of the 40 Lap features.

In the first feature Brian Purdham would finish 2nd with Sparky Staton in third. While in the second feature Mark Cook would finsh behind Bush with John Skelly in third. The Late Models will be back in action next week running a 75 Lap event.

VMCRA Mini Cups were the featured class for the evening as they ran a 50 lap main event and would also draw some lucky fan's name who would win a brand new race ready mini cup. Ryan Adams would take the pole with a time of 19.283 and the #19 car of Kevin Berkstresser alongside. The racing action was intense for the first twenty laps but mainly for 2nd position as Adams took off from the field and no one could get close. On lap 21 the #9 car of Darrell Williams got loose, hit the wall and did major damage to the car, but with the driver walking away unhurt. For the remainder of the race there were no incidents as Adams ran away with the win followed by Justin LaDuke in second and Hunter Koschara in third.

INEX Legends racing would have quite a show for the fans as the #9 polesitter Micheal Edwards, #20 Cameron Patrick and #8 of Scotty Edwards would have an early battle for the top spot. However, with the top three battling that left the door open for Addison Rogers, Andy Kirby and Jeff Davis to join in and make it a six-car battle for the lead. Davis spun a few laps later but regained his composure to fall to rear of the field and not getting lapped. In the end, Kilpatrick held on to capture the win followed by Scotty and Micheal Edwards in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The SVSRL had a full field of cars show up for their 50 lap event with Tim Brown Jr. leading the field with a time of18.637 and Steve Teter in at 18.389. The first caution flag would fall on lap 2 as the #3 car of Elbert Curtpatrick would spin coming out of turn 2 and relegating him to the back of the field. The battle would heat up over the next several laps as Brown pulled away with #92 of Matt Custer, Teter and Tyler Staton battling for 2nd. On lap 32 Staton would go around coming out of turn 2 with several other cars spinning to avoid the #1 car. The field would tighten back up as racing action continued and as they finished up with Brown taking the win with Custer and Jody Hensley rounding out the top three.

The BIG race of the evening featured some local children on their bikes in a 2 lap shootout with $100, $75 and $50 Saving Bonds given by Pioneer Bank with all participants receiving trophies.

Racing action continues August 15 with a 75 lap Late Model event, Sportsman, Street Stock, INEX Lend and SVSRL 50 lapper. For more info, contact the track at: 540-652-1108 or check out the web at www.shenandoahspeedway.com

The phrase "calm before the storm" was definitely the theme for the racing action at Shenandoah Speedway on Saturday night. With the practice and qualifying sessions completed in flawless fashion, it looked like the "Double Feature" racing action for the night would follow suit. But as everyone knows, you can't assume anything, especially when it comes to racing.

The INEX Legends would take to the track for the opening race of the night and all went well until Kevin Eichelberger completed a solo spin in turn 2 to bring out the only caution period of the event. Joe Hendricks picked up the first of his 2 wins for the night with Scotty Edwards and Michael Edwards in second and third in both features. Eichelberger and Jeff Davis rounded out the top five in race 1 while Davis and Roger Freeze finished in fourth and fifth in the second race.

Late Models were out next for their first of two scheduled 50 lap features with Kevin Bush on the pole with a time of 15.965 and Brian Purdham alongside at 15.998. It didn't take long for the racing action to heat up as Purdham powered by Bush on the outside going into turn one and as Bush drifted up, Sergio Pena dove to the inside of Bush to take the spot. Bush would take exception to the pass and make some disparaging remarks at the end of the race while being interviewed.

Pena took the lead a lap later with Purdham tucked closely behind for several laps until the yellow flag came out for a spin by Jeff Abbott in turn 4. The yellow would come out 3 more times in less than 10 laps as the #3 car of Kevin Powell would spin twice but the most significant caution would be on lap 8 as the #44 of Wes Branner drove into the #55 car of John Skelly, doing severe body damage to both cars. The remainder of the race was run caution-free with Pena barely holding off Purdham at the line for the win and Bush a distant third.

Jr. Wright had the quick time of 16.844 for the Sportsman race No. 1 with Tommy Nance coming in at 17.238, but due to the dreaded invert Deryle Lawson got the start on the front row along newcomer Tommy Adams on the outside pole.

When the green flag dropped the #99 car of Wright followed the #88 of Adams on the outside to move by the inside line of Lawson and Nance. On lap 5, while running in third position, Nance spun in turn 3 in front of the field but was fortunate as everyone took evasive actions and no one else was involved.

A lap later while exiting turn 2 the cars of Lawson and Wright got together and continued down the backstretch. Wright got by Lawson entering turn 3, but it was evident that he had a flat tire and as Lawson drove by on the outside Wright turned up into Lawson, heavily damaging his own car while doing significant damage to the Lawson entry.

When the green flag dropped on the restart, Adams held off the hard charging Hoy Prichette III to pick up his first Shenandoah Speedway win.

The Street Stock division was out next for their first race of the evening and pole sitter Mike Gund held off a hard charging Sparky Staton and Glenn Heatwole to pick up the win. Heatwole and Staton raced side by side for several laps with Heatwole finishing second by less than a car length over Staton

The racing action was delayed for 45 minutes due to a thunderstorm, but track crews worked hard to get the track ready for racing action albeit a shortened version in each division for the remaining races.

The Street Stock drivers would return for their second feature which was shortened to a 15 lap shootout and. after a full filed invert, Sparky Staton would pick up the win followed by Mike Gund and Glenn Heatwole.

The VMCRA was on the track for their 20-lap feature with Ryan Adams on the pole with a time of 19.297 and Justin LaDuke alongside at 19.333. Tammi Cook would bring out the caution flag early as she spun coming out of turn two in the first lap, but things would settle down from that point on as Adams and LaDuke would battle for the win. In the end, Adams would hold off LaDuke for the win with Tyler Roach picking up third.

In the second Sportsman feature of the evening, Hoy Prichette III picked up his first ever Shenandoah Speedway win as he and Tommy Adams swapped positions from the first feature.

The Second Late Model feature would be shortened to 25 laps and would be the costliest race in the young track's history with at least five cars receiving major damage and one car being destroyed.

Rookie Brandon Comer would start on the pole due to a seven-car invert with Mark Cook alongside, but when the green flag dropped Comer was caught napping and Cook sped by to take the lead.

Sparky Staton would take over second with Brian Purdham in third followed by Kevin Bush and Sergio Pena. Cook stretched out his lead over first 15 laps as Purdham and Staton raced side by side for over 10 laps with some of the most exciting yet clean racing that the fans had ever witnessed.

The fireworks happened on lap 16 as the No. 58 car of Pena and the No. 51 car of Bush got together on the front straightaway, but both cars continued without losing any positions. Bush however took exception to the incident and as the Pena entry entered turn 3, Bush drove hard into Pena and turned him up into the outside turn 4 wall.

Youthful tempers flared as Pena went back after Bush and drove down into him while coming off of the wall. After a brief stoppage of the race to clean up the carnage, the race was restarted to a green, white, checkered flag finish with Cook taking the win followed by Purdham and Comer.

Back in the field, Wes Branner in the No. 44 car drove hard into the No. 8 machine of Sparky Staton, which then made contact with the No. 11 car of Jeff Abbott. Both cars were sent careening into the wall and the Staton car was destroyed with not much left of the Abbott machine either.

The UCAR race was run almost entirely free of cautions as Jeremy Griffith, Rich Marouse and Chriss Grogg stole the show as they raced side by side for the entire 15-lap race. The three track legal and evenly matched cars entertained the crowd as they finished in that order with Jeremy Grogg and Ronnie Cubbage rounding out the top five.

Racing action continues next week in six exciting classes featuring the Late Models and the VMRCA Mini Cup 50 Lap "Summer Shootout." After destroying both of their cars in a accident a week earlier and not even sure that either of them were going to make it back this week to race, both Kevin Bush and Brian Purdham were very happy that they were racing on Saturday night.

In the first Late Model feature of the night Bush, after qualifying on the pole led the first lap with Sergio Pena, Sparky Staton and Purdham all ready to pounce if he made the slightest mistake On lap 2.

Pena dove to the inside of Bush going into turn 1 and took the lead coming out of turn 2 and started to ease away. Pena looked mistake free and bullet proof until lap 17 when his engine exploded going into turn 3, leaving the first year driver without a ride for the second feature of the evening.

Bush took over the top spot but Purdham kept the pressure on for the remaining 23 laps as several times he would move to the inside of Bush but could not find the grip to pass him.

Bush picked up his 3rd win of the season with Purdham, Staton, John Skelly and Jeff Abbott rounding out the top five.

In the second feature the fans voted for an entire field invert which left Bush and Purdham starting in the rear of the field and only 20 laps to get to the front.

"Rookie" driver Brandon Comer making his first ever late model start spun on the 2nd lap bringing out the first of 2 caution periods. On lap13 the #21 car of Tyler Sandmeyer and now being driven by Sergio Pena got a tap coming out of turn 2 and shot into the #44 car of Wes Branner. The two cars continued down the backstretch with Pena never lifting his foot off the gas and driving straight through Branner sending both cars spinning wildly into the wall.

Pena's car was done for the evening but Branner was able to continue and salvage a 6th place finish.

Brian Purdham was able to hold off hard charging Zion's Crossroad driver Sparky Staton and Bush for his first ever Late Model win with John Skelly and Jeff Abbott rounding out the top five.

WHSV TV3 sponsored the nights events at the speedway and along with the track gave away over $3,000 worth of merchandise, tickets and prizes, but the big event of the night was the bicycle race between the celebrities on hand.

Bob Corso captured the win in the bicycle with Damon Dillman in second and George Heishmann in 3rd

Sportsman & Street Stock classes each ran twin features and Jr Wright started on the pole and led flag to flag to win the 20 lap shootout.

In the second feature the selected fan drew a lucky #7 out of the hat and the top 7 cars were inverted. That put the #83 car of Glen Heatwole on the pole with Billy Keyes of Waynesboro on the outside.

As the field entered turn 1, David Turner in the #39 car dove to the inside of Heatwole making contact and sending Heatwole up over the left front fender and hood of the Keyes machine, ripping all the front sheet metal.

Keyes was able to restart but spun later in the race and finish 4th.

Jr Wright had been working his way to the front and passed Deryle Lawson with 5 laps to go to claim his second win off the night. Lawson finished 2nd with Larry Wood picking up third in his first visit to the track.

Sparky Staton picked up the win in the Street Stock with David Turner and Keith Griffith in second and third respectively.

The VMCRA Mini Cups had their 50 lap event cut in half due to time constraints, but that didn't damper their enthusiasm for some exciting and competitive racing. With the Mini Cup track record holder Justin LaDuke on the pole and veteran driver Kevin Berkstresser along side on the front row, rookie driver Hunter Koschara in third and David Williams starting 4th.

It didn't take long for the action to begin as Berkstresser and LaDuke started the side by side racing and passing. Koschara joined in and took the lead early in the event but got severely loose coming out of turn but making a remarkable save, kept the car pointed in the right direction and only lost two postions.

Meanwhile the #5 car of Ben Roudabush had brought out the 1st of his 2 cautions for the night due to spins had bunched the field back up for the restart and there was plenty of "rubbin' and racin" action back in the pack.

When the checkered flag flew, the youngster Koschara had earned his first ever Mini Cup victory with Berkstresser, LaDuke, Williams and Amanda Forney rounding out the top five.

Racing action resumes on Saturday, July 18th with half off ticket prices for all Albemarle County residents (and towns and cities therein). Scheduled racing action in 6 classes, pit gates open at 2 p.m., main gates open at 5 p.m. with racing action at 7 p.m.

For more info call the speedway office at 540-652-1108 or check out the web at www.shenandoahspeedway.com

Sergio Pena showed everyone at Shenandoah Speedway on Saturday night that even though some may still consider him still a "kid" that he is the man to beat. The young driver recently turned 16 came away with his 4th straight win in dominating fashion.

After having the quick time in qualifying Sergio and his blistering time of 15.790 were sent to a starting position of fifth on the invert draw which gave the starting position to Sparky Staton with Corey Roadcap alongside.

When the green flag dropped Staton took off with Kevin Bush and Pena close behind as the outside lane of cars had trouble getting going. Racing action was tight in the early going as cars were rubbing on almost every turn trying to gain an edge for some very valuable track position.

The first of 5 caution periods came on lap 34 when Mark Cook spun coming out of turn, Ty Miller spun just 9 laps later and Corey Roadcap spun out on lap 51 for the 2nd and 3rd cautions.

The most costly caution flag of the night came on lap 58 when Kevin Bush went around coming out of turn 4 and the #77 car of Brian Purdham couldn't get stopped in time and plowed right into the stationery Bush. Both cars continued on with Purdham limping around the bottom of the track and Bush trying to finish with a bent rear clip.

When racing action continued Pena pulled ahead of now 2nd place Staton with John Skelly of Timberville in 3rd. Skelly worked on Staton for several laps trying to get around and on the white flag both cars got together on the backstretch with Skelly spinning wildly to the inside and Staton spinning to the outside. While this was going on the Bush machine passed both of them to finish 2nd behind Pena and Staton in 3rd with Skelly and Cook rounding out the top 5.

In INEX Legend action, Michael Edwards captured the pole with Kevin Yeatts alongside and Scotty Edwards in third. After 25 laps a few spins and a little bumper action in the back of the field, the final result was the same with the younger Edwards picking up the win and Yeatts getting his first podium finish of the year and Scotty Edwards in 3rd.

David Turner picked up his first pole position of the year in the Street Stock class with his time of 17.810 which edged out Mike Gund's 17.867 and Glen Heatwole's 17.889. Turner however did not have the start that he wanted and when the green flag came out Gund jumped to the lead with Turner and Heatwole battling for 2nd. 30 laps later Gund still held the lead to pick up his 2nd career win.

Heatwole came home in 2nd followed by Turner, Keith Griffith and Larry Martin.

In other racing action on the night Steve Teter picked up the SVSRL Mini cup win with Tyler Staton, Jody Hensley, Andy Reeves and Kenny Armstrong rounding out the top five.

Billy Keyes got the Sportsman win followed by Deryle Lawson and Hoy Pritchette III and Randy Good, Aaron Bell and Jeremy Griffith the top 3 in UCAR action.

Tyler Staton wrapped up the title in the final Enduro race of the season and will now continue to race in the Mini Cups along with debuting in the Street Stock class very soon.

Jay Pena had a plan for his 16 year old son on Saturday night - "just ride the first 100 laps" - and ride he did as he came on strong in the second 100 laps to capture his third win at Shenandoah Speedway.

Kevin Bush picked up another Shenandoah Pharmacy quick qualifier award at 15.719 with Sergio Pena alongside with a time of 15.753.

Bush jumped out to an early lead but showed no resistance when the field started catching up and passing him as he dropped back to the seventh position by lap 20.

Pena led some early laps until he also backed off when the No. 7 car of Jody Cahill of Manassas came charging to the front.

Cahill, driving his recently acquired car from retired Shenandoah driver Scott Marshall, led until the yellow flag came out on lap 100.

As the field got back under way to start the final 100 laps, it looked like an entirely different field of drivers as it was "go time now" and on lap 136,

Pena started pressuring Cahill and passed him 3 laps later to take a lead that he would never relinquish.

Bush, Purdham, Cahill and Staton rounded out the top five.

In the VMCRA Mini Cups race.

Justin La Duke started on the pole with a time of 19.451 and Ryan Adams alongside at 19.695.

Jason Watkins and "rookie" Hunter Koschara showed that it doesn't really matter where you start but where you finish as they came blasting through the field to finish 1-2 in the final running order.

Ryan Adams finished third followed by David Williams and Quinn Houff.

UCAR action had the entire field inverted for the start of the race, so that allowed Chad Kuykendall and Jeremy Woods the opportunity to start upfront. That would be short-lived however as the green flag dropped, cars fanned out four wide coming down the front stretch and entering turn two.

Steven Andes of Waynesboro jumped out front to lead with Jeremy and Chris Grogg close behind and Randy Good closing in fast.

There was rubbing and racing going on from the front of the pack to the rear as the action heated up and the cars' temperatures and the drivers' tempers seemed to match the action.

Good came across the line in first followed by Lauren Edgerton and Jeremy Griffith.

Mike Gund picked up his first-ever win as he led the entire 50-lap Street Stock event. It wasn't an easy victory for Gund as the No. 7 car of R.J. Judd stayed on his bumper and kept the pressure on Gund for the entire race. But as second-place finisher Judd stated in victory lane, "I would have liked to have won ,but I wasn't going to spin him out for the win" it shows what this division is all about - "class."

Glen Heatwole finished in third.

In other racing action of the night, Rette Causey won the 25-lap INEX Legends race with Michael and Scotty Edwards in second and third.

Brian Kirby picked up the Mini Modified race. Jr. Wright won the Sportsman race followed by Deryle Lawson and John Alger.

Racing action continues this Saturday, July 11, with Late Model, Sportsman, Street Stock, INEX Legends, UCAR, Enduro and SVSRL Super Mini Cups.

For more info, contact the speedway office at 540-652-1108 or check out the Web at www.shenandoahspeedway.com

Also on July 11, everyone 62 years young or older will be admitted free with valid ID.
