WOODSTOCK -- You can examine the Virginia High School League record book, at your leisure, simply be tracking down the venerable organization's website, clicking the relevant links, and opening that ever-expanding history of state championship and champions.
It's a fairly common sight during the high school track and field season to see Central coach Rick Lytton huddled together with fellow coaches Glenn Proctor of Strasburg and Dick Krol of Stonewall Jackson.
RADFORD -- Justin Bauserman wasn't going to let anything keep him from defending his 300 hurdles title in Saturday's Group A track meet. Not a disappointing performance in the 110 hurdles. Not a 30-minute lightning delay. And certainly not a strong challenge from a rival.

She was the last athlete to make an attempt in the event and already had the top throw.She made the throw and then as one-by-one people began to congratulate her it her -- she was a state champion and the tears began to flow.

MADISON -- Central's softball team hung tough with top-seeded Madison County for four innings, before falling 5-0 in the Bull Run District softball tournament semifinals on Tuesday.
WARRENTON -- Fourth-seeded Warren County upset top-seeded Fauquier, 3-0, in the Evergreen District softball tournament semifinal match-up on Monday evening.

Whether it was spending countless hours at the Woodstock park playing pickup games or helping Central's girls basketball team win the program's only state championship in the fall of 1996, the one thing that has always bonded them has been their love of basketball.
QUICKSBURG -- As the first half slipped under two minutes Thursday night, Stonewall Jackson guard Russell Hill pulled up just shy of the foul line and drained a jumper.
The Generals were jumping for joy, cutting Shenandoah District rival Central's lead to five points with the made basket.
Then came the whistle: One of Stonewall Jackson's players had held the ball a tad too long after it ended flight through the hoop, and the perceived delay resulted in a technical foul called against the Generals.
